Mrs. Reiber's Apple Newsletter
September 25, 2017
Important Reminders
- Welcome to the weekly newsletter! Please read this letter each week to learn about important updates in our school and to find out what your child is learning about!
- The next online-only due date for Scholastic Book Orders is October 20th.
- Our class will be taking the Math MAP test on Monday, September 25th. This is not a test your child can study for so just encourage them to try their best! It should take about 60 minutes.
- We will be switching rooms daily starting this Thursday (from 10:00-10:45) so students can learn about science topics with Mrs. Kerscher, another third grade teacher. Her students will come to my room to learn about social studies at the same time.
- Our class has been loving their new math centers! Students got to explore math websites, play a math game with friends, review flashcards, learn about math vocabulary words, work with a teacher to review concepts, and challenge themselves in the "Light Bulb Lab."
- *This week there is only spelling and reading homework - no math assignment.*
Thanks,
Mrs. Reiber
Special Awards
Congratulations to Gage for earning the VIP chair this week in our Class Dojo behavior system!
Happy Birthday!
There are no birthdays for the rest of the month.
What we are learning in Room 12...
If your child is going to be absent, please let me know in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
- Math - Students are learning how to solve division problems using multiplication facts! You can help your child at home by practicing multiplication facts and writing out the "fact families" for a set of related numbers. Please contact me for extra practice sheets and I will send some home with those who request it.
- Reading - This week we are presenting our Reader's Theater scripts about the "judicial branch" of government using fairy tales! We will also incorporate reading with our mini-social studies unit about community with Miss Yen.
- Writing/Spelling - This week the spelling word pattern is "long u." The words will be in the back of the yellow take-home folder and the test will take place on Friday. Your child will have 5 "personal word list" words. In writing class, we are starting to review parts of a sentence - noun, verb, adverb, adjective.
- Science - Science class will start this week. The students will be learning about natural resources/energy for the next few weeks with Mrs. Kerscher.
