State Testing 3rd - 5th Grades
Our students take federally required assessments every spring. These assessments help us understand how our students are growing academically, compared to their peers across the state. The state uses this information to provide more support and resources to the schools in the greatest need. This year, the English language arts and math assessment for grades 3-5 is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness.
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is almost exactly the same this year as the assessment that students took last year, only slightly shorter. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness measures the same Illinois Learning Standards and includes the same high-quality test questions that teachers and students have become familiar with over the past four years.
Our students should feel confident showing what they know and can do on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, even with the new test name and new look.
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness will change over the next few years, as the state works to make it more useful to schools and families. Next year, we will have the results back from the test much more quickly. The year after that, the test will adapt to each student, so we gain a better understanding of where each individual student is in their learning. We will continue to be able to measure students’ growth from year to year throughout these improvements.
The tests will be administered beginning the first week of April. Students will be tested in both ELA (English Language Arts) and Math. The test will be completed online as it has been the previous three years. Our teachers are providing students with opportunities to become familiar with the look and layout of the test.
We encourage parents to insure their students are getting a good breakfast and good night's rest these couple of weeks to give them the best opportunity to be successful on the assessments.
Are you chaperoning a field trip?
If you would like to volunteer with field trips, library, classroom parties at the Dunlap schools, you will need to complete the online application on the Dunlap District website. After completing, the District Office will contact you regarding fingerprinting. Please let the Banner office know that you have started the process. We suggest you start this as soon as possible as it does take some time to process everything. You must be approved before you can take part in an activity.

DHS Smart Cookie Sales
The Life Skills Transition class will once again be coming to schools to sell fresh cookies. There is one cookie in a bag and it sells for .50. The cookies come in chocolate chip and M&M. The primary focus of the Transition program is to serve as a bridge to adult living. We teach the students the skills they will need to live as independently as possible and be contributing members of their communities. The cookie business provides an opportunity to practice both vocational and social skills in a real life setting. The proceeds from our sales go towards buying groceries to use for weekly cooking lessons and allow us to go to different places to learn how to navigate and access the community. We appreciate all of the support that we have been given and we look forward to coming!
Cookies for Sale at Banner on Friday, April 5 at 1:30 PM. Cost will be $.50 for 1 large cookie, chocolate chip or M&M.
