Jane Addams Middle School
Week of September 14
Message From Principal Montgomery
Dear Families,
We made it through our first days of remote learning with close to 100% of our students making it to class in our Schoology system. It was wonderful to see them and we should all be proud of our students. They are navigating their new school structures, learning technology quicker than many adults and supporting their classmates through it all. One of the highlights of the week was when one of our students showed me how to customize my Teams background!
I also love seeing students independence in this remote world. Continue to have students contact teachers, counselors and administrators through schoology when they need support.
This week we begin our "normal" academic schedule.
Monday/Thursday, Periods 1/2/3
Tuesday/Friday, Periods 4/5/6
Wednesdays, Advisory and Periods 1-6
See below for specific times enrichment schedules and other information.
All class links can be found in the course information folders (See photo to the left and videos below.
Students should be sure to restart their computers every few days to make sure that new updates are loaded. I recommend that they do this at least one hour before a scheduled class.
This week, we will continue to build community, teach students the basic technology that they need to navigate, explain how small group time will work, and begin our first days of academic learning.
This is a good week to start asking your students about their work in class. We also pleased to begin our Library on the Lawn hours. Students may come by on Wednesdays from 11-1pm to pick up books. All students should be reading a book of their choice for at least 30 minutes a day.
I look forward to seeing many of you at this week's family forums and getting to know your students in classes this week.
Go Jaguars!
Paula

Flu shot Clinic at Nathan Hale from September 21-October 2
Protect your family from the flu.
Flu shots are the single best way to protect students, staff and families from getting the flu. Flu and COVID-19 symptoms are similar. The Center for Disease Control recommends everyone over the age of six months get a flu shot.
Following COVID precautions, Seattle Visiting Nurse Association (SVNA) offers 32 outdoor “drive through” flu shot clinics at 16 school buildings September 21-October 2. Parents may register all family members for a flu shot online.
SVNA accepts Apple Health, Medicare and most private insurance (not TriCare or CIGNA) and credit cards.
Make your appointment here Seattle Visiting Nurse Association ONLINE FORM.
School-based health centers located in many of our schools also offer flu shots to any SPS student. Flu shots and other services are available with or without insurance. To get a flu shot at a school-based health center, contact the center directly. For a list and map of schools with school-based health centers, visit King County School Health.
