Mr. Glover's Weekly Update
March 14th, 2024
Week at a Glance, 3.18-3.22
Darcel's Message
Happy Thursday afternoon, Raider Educators.
I hope that you all have been having a wonderful day and are prepared for a beautiful Friday. I want to thank you all for your participation during the AT this Wednesday. The energy in that space was extremely positive and I felt that the information shared was extremely valuable for the work that we are continuing to do around relational capacity and restorative practices. A huge “Thank you” to the entire Equity and Aspire Team for all of their hard work and dedication. The work that you all are conducting to provide an environment that is inclusive for everyone who steps foot on this campus is essential to our success as an overall community.
I appreciate the commitment so many of US are committed to here on campus. Congratulations to Mrs. Brown for the “Leveraging Language Open House” that she was able to showcase for PUSD personnel and peer educators. Our EL community is fortunate to have you as their “Champion”. Your passionate care and development for some of our most vulnerable students is truly amazing.
Don’t forget the creativity and care that our Counselors, Leadership and ASB teams have taken to create a welcoming environment for our incoming 5th grade families and students with our elementary school visits and last night's Bridging to Black Mountain Middle School ceremony. Ms. Furtak, Ms. Barker, Ms. Andersen, Mrs. Logan, Ms. Walsh, Leandro, Jireh, Our Counselors, front office, custodial crew, PTSA & Foundation, who helped pull together such a wonderful event for our families.
As we continue to celebrate our diversity here at Black Mountain Middle School, I hope that you all are inspired to take this opportunity to showcase and highlight our focus groups during the month of March. There are several resources that are available (see the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Newsletter- Issue 4 below) to assist in highlighting significant figures and events for Women's History Month, Irish American History Month, and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.
Please enjoy the remainder of the Gazette and have a wonderful remainder of your week.
See you all on Monday.
Emergency Drill Update
Because of the TWO unplanned fire evacuations in February, we are adjusting our drill schedule as follows.
Week of 3/20 - Lockdown Drill (rescheduled from February)
Week of 4/22 - Drop Cover/Evacuate/Sweep Drill (rescheduled from March)
There will be no further scheduled fire drills this year, as we have already met the standard of four fire drills per school year.
Please review the Lockdown Guidelines with students in advance of next week’s drill.
Library Book Competition
A special "Thank You" to Reading Raiders for their participation in the first match against Oak Valley Middle School. Congratulations for our very first Reading Competition. It was a close match. Everyone did awesome! Go Reading Raiders!
Our next match is March 25th against Twin Peaks Middle School 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We need to meet on Wednesdays and Fridays to get ready for the next competition right after school.
