A Message From The Co-Principals
Good Afternoon and Happy Friday,
We are happy to release the fifth issue of the Jayhawk Blast. It has been a great few weeks at JHS. Some highlights include our hosting of the Vex Robotics competition on November 26, kicking off our 2019-20 partnership with LI Cares to help feed the hungry throughout Long Island, No-Shave November, the school play, parent teacher conferences, and our counselors working with students during lunch periods to celebrate the Thanksgiving season by creating “Thank You” notes for JHS staff members. This issue of the Jayhawk Blast is filled with important information, updates, celebrations and resources. Please take a few extra minutes to read through and click on all of the links to learn more.
The annual Fashion/Talent Show is tomorrow night at 7pm in the HS Auditorium. It will certainly be one of the highlights for the year. So do not miss out!
Finally, take note of the upcoming events and important deadlines. The next PTSA meeting will be on Tuesday, January 7 at 10:00 am in the HS Library.

Jericho's Robocall System
The district uses the Robocall system only for emergencies and to announce snow closings and delayed openings. If there is a weather-related closing or delay, parents and staff will receive a Robocall and an email with detailed information.
SEPTA Post-Secondary Transition Fair
On Tuesday, December 10, Jericho SEPTA, in collaboration with the High School Counseling Center, will be hosting a Post-Secondary Transition Night at the HS. There will be an Information Fair between 6:15-7:15 PM followed by a Panel Discussion from 7:15-8:15. Topics include; Making a Successful Transition from High School to College, College Support Programs and Protecting Your Child with Special Needs Legally and Financially. The JHS Fashion/Talent Show will be on Saturday, December 7 at 7:00 pm in the HS Auditorium. You do not want to miss this event! All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Jeffrey Ratner Foundation.

Peer Tutoring Club
The Peer Tutoring Club is open to all students and is a great resource for helping or getting help from your peers! If you would like to apply as a tutor or would like to be tutored, please read the following instructions:
1) To be a tutor, sign up with the online form below. Please note that the peer tutoring club has gone paperless. All forms are to be filled out online. Additionally, the peer tutoring forms can be accessed through the Peer Tutoring Canvas page.

2) To get tutored, sign up with the online form below. We will match you with a tutor who is qualified to tutor you in the subject you need help with. Sign-up link to be tutored: https://forms.gle/6omvzhfhbrM15AQc9
Please note that only high school students or students taking high school classes may be tutored through the club. In addition, you must attend meetings in addition to tutor in order to receive club credit. The Peer Tutoring club meets every B week on Thursdays at 8:15 in room 253.
Champions For Charity Holiday Shopping Benefit
The Jericho Educational Foundation (JEF) will be participating in Americana Manhasset’s Champions for Charity from Thursday, December 5 through Saturday, December 7.
Over 70 participating Americana Manhasset and Wheatley Plaza stores will donate 25% of designated pre-tax purchases to the participating organization(s) of the customer’s choice. Purchases are not automatically eligible; you must register for a complimentary Champion Card PRIOR to the event, designate Jericho Educational Foundation (JEF) as your charity of choice, and present your CHAMPION CARD when making purchases during the event to raise funds for a wonderful cause. Jericho Brick Fundraiser
The Jericho Educational Foundation has extended the deadline for the next round of the Jericho Brick Fundraiser to Pave the Way for Educational Excellence. The net proceeds from all brick sales will directly benefit the entire Jericho educational community. Purchase a brick in honor of your children (current students or alums), teachers, mentors, administration or staff members. Businesses are also welcome to participate in this program. The bricks will be installed in front of the Jericho Middle/High School entrance. A tax-deductible contribution of $200 to the Jericho Educational Fund (JEF) will get you a commemorative brick, which will be engraved with a personalized message and installed outside of the school. Please support our PTSA by sending in your membership dues today. Membership is $10 per person. Membership is mandatory for 4 years of HS in order to be eligible to receive a PTSA Scholarship as a senior.

HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS
No Shave November Shave Off
The Jericho administrators raised almost $4,000 for cancer causes during November and during that time they didn’t shave to support No Shave November. On December 2, they held a Shave Off and received assistance from the students in the Barbering program at Nassau BOCES.
Long Island Cares Comes To JHS
Jericho HS Hosts VEX Robotics Competition 2019-2020 Tower Takeover
Jericho High School hosted 37 area schools (31 High Schools, 6 middle schools) for a VEX Robotics Competition on Saturday, November 23, 2019. The event was held in the Sam Springer Gymnasium.
The VEX Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, is an exciting engineering challenge where students build innovative robots and compete throughout the year.
Thirty one teams from area high schools, challenged one another in the VEX Robotics Competition, Tower Takeover, with 6 middle school teams also competing. The VEX Robotics Competition not only prepares students to become future innovators, students also refine their engineering skills as well as learn teamwork, communication, project management and critical thinking.
High School tournament awardees qualify for the State/Regional Championships, as well as the CREATE U.S. Open.
Jericho HS had two of its six teams win awards. Team 9932E won the Judges Award. Team 9932X won the Design Award qualifying them for the State Champion to be held in March 2020.
Congratulations to all 9932 members and teams!

Method Test Prep
Jericho High School is delighted to provide your child with free access to Method Test Prep (MTP), an online SAT/ACT test prep program that helps students build their math, reading, and writing skills. Students can listen to tutorials, watch instructional videos, and take quizzes to test for mastery. The program is highly adaptive and keeps track of a student’s strengths and weaknesses. Students have access to a large pool of practice questions and receive instant feedback upon completion of each question.
Students in grades 9-12 can access Method Test Prep through their Canvas accounts. The link to Method Test Prep is listed on your child’s Canvas account below the link for Naviance. Please have your child see their counselor if they require any assistance in accessing this free resource.
