During the month of April, each of the four traditional high schools in Wilkes County held National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) Inductions. To be eligible for NTHS, a student must take a level two CTE course and be classified as a CTE Concentrator.

She comes to class each morning with a smile on her face while being ready and eager to learn. She has a passion for helping others, especially in the healthcare field! She most recently competed with West Wilkes High School's HOSA Club, where she won first place at the state HOSA Leadership Conference in her event, Extemporaneous Health poster. She will compete this summer at the international competition in Houston, Texas. Aside from doing well in academics, she also trains many hours a week to compete in cheer competitions.

Ms. Susan Coleman, Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Ms. Coleman is one of our Family and Consumer Sciences Education teachers at West Wilkes High School. She teaches Child Development, Interior Design Fundamentals, and Apparel and Textile Production I and II. Ms. Coleman has been teaching for Wilkes County Schools for four years, but has 20 years of teaching experience under her belt. She and Mrs. Jamie Minton, along with students from WWHS, planned and participated in a "Lunch and Link" luncheon where the students spoke with community leaders and local industry representatives about careers, interview skills, and many other employability skills.

TinkerCad and 3D Printing in Mrs. Ward's 6th Grade CTE Classes
6th grade students in Mrs. Ward's CTE classes have used creativity and perseverance to learn new skills with TinkerCad and the 3D printers. One student even designed and printed a mini-3D printer. Great job Jaguar students!
Guest Speaker for Mrs. Ward's 8th Grade CTE Classes
Mrs. Edmiston, Marketing Director with Chick-Fil-A of Wilkesboro, returned for the second semester to visit Mrs. Ward's CTE classes. Mrs. Edmiston taught the students about the interviewing and hiring process, and proper handshaking techniques.
Students had fun, and even earned some cool Chick-Fil-A swag!

Food and Nutrition I students in Mrs. Bauguess' class have been showcasing talents while creating informative presentations in the forms of songs, poems, cooking videos, models, and social media campaigns about whole grains! Welcome to the Food and Nutrition I Whole Grains Project! These students are taking learning to a new level and having a great time in the process.

Food and Nutrition II with Mrs. Bauguess
Students in Food and Nutrition II with Mrs. Bauguess created "dating profiles" for incomplete proteins to better understand how certain foods work better together. The students did a great job using creativity and thinking out of the box with this project.

Food and Nutrition I students in Mrs. Bauguess' classes enjoyed the fruits of their labor with apple pancakes on the assignment menu. Food and Nutrition II students created Doro Wat, a classic Ethiopian chicken dish. Everything looks yummy in the pictures below!

Health Science Education
Health Science I with Ms. Blankenship
Students in Health Science I with Ms. Blankenship finished up the circulatory system unit by demonstrating their understanding of concepts by creating the large heart poster below.
Health Science I with Mrs. Blankenship
Health Science I students in Mrs. Blankenship's class completed a sheep brain dissection. During this dissection, the students were able to identify the structures of the brain they learned about during the nervous system unit.

Health Science I students in Mrs. Blankenship's class completed the cow's eye dissection lab. This lab allowed students to explore the structures and functions of the eye. The students had a great time completing this lab and learned a lot in the process!

Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Wilkes County Schools CTE Lunch and Link with Mrs. Minton and Ms. Coleman
On April 18, Wilkes County Schools CTE Department hosted a "Lunch and Link" luncheon to connect business leaders in the community to the students of WWHS. WWHS Family and Consumer Sciences Education teachers, Mrs. Minton and Ms. Coleman, spearheaded the event. Mrs. Minton teaches Food and Nutrition classes. She and her students provided the amazing food for the luncheon, including yummy home canned pickles on each table. Ms. Coleman teaches Interior Design, Apparel and Textile Production, and Child Development. Mrs. Coleman and her students provided all of the beautiful decorations and seating assignments that were a nice touch to the afternoon. The students and business leaders were intentionally grouped together by student interest to provide meaningful conversation about business etiquette, interviewing skills and education requirements for specific careers. Many business leaders volunteered to speak to the entire group and shared specific tips for the students.
Thank you to all of the community members who attended this valuable event for our students.

Students in Food and Nutrition II with Mrs. Minton successfully completed the ServSafe Manager exam. This exam covers food safety and sanitation in the commercial setting. These students now have the ANSI-Accredited Food Protection Manager ServSafe Certification.

WWHS HOSA students had another successful year at NCHOSOA SLC! 20 students attended this wonderful educational opportunity over Spring Break.
