Video to Share
Liberty recently held our annual day of Service and Learning around the celebration of Dr Martin Luther King's birthday.
Additionally, as many of you know Liberty has adopted values around
BOLTS. Where B stands for "Belonging", O for "Ownership", L for "Leadership", T for "Teamwork" and S for "Safety".
We continue to improve in all areas, but know the work is never done.
Attached is a video that, Science Teacher, Sakinah Ellickson made for MLK day that emphasizes that core value of "Belonging" at Liberty.
I hope you enjoy her work. I think it speaks to the heart and spirit of Liberty.
Family Teacher Conferences
Our Winter conferences will be on our third date due to weather, now Wednesday, February 6 from 4:15-7:45pm in the Liberty commons. There is no need to schedule an appointment. Simply show up during these times and your student(s) teachers will be available to discuss their academic progress.
It will be a busy night with the counselors running an Incoming Parent Night meeting from 6-7pm in the Auditorium, followed by a 7:30pm Vocal Music concert.
The Liberty Fund continues to grow

Rotary Youth Leadership Program
Sophomore students self-nominated or were nominated by faculty members to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership week-long summer leadership conference. The initial informational meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 5, in the library during Liberty Time. From that meeting, students complete a questionnaire. Twelve students will be selected by the Rotary committee for interviews. Following the interview process, five to six students will earn the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, which is a scholarship to attend the leadership conference on the Grinnell Campus. This experience will help these students be leaders at Liberty, and the skills they study and practice will help them in their relationships and careers.

Orchestra and String Theory are BUSY!
Jazz, bluegrass and pop music OH MY!
The Orchestras and our resident "band," String Theory, have been busy preparing for both the Wintergrass Music Festival in Seattle (February 20-25) AND a trip to the Worlds of Fun Band and Orchestra Festival (May 11-12) in the orchestra room lately!
Music in high school is an awesome balance of adventure and hard work and the Liberty Orchestras try their best to represent the many styles of music that involve strings! Over the next few months, our students will have jammed alongside members of the Grateful Dead and the Sons of the Pioneers, put on a jazz concert with the band and choir (March 7) and performed with our new Dean of Students, Ms. Kim Fitten, singing lead with us!

One MLK Day Service Project
90 care packages were put together by Liberty students for the Shelter House and Crisis Center during MLK Day.
This was made possible with donations from the Iowa City Hilton Garden Inn, Coralville Marriott, and Bren O'Connor & Fred Riddle Family Dentistry.
In Shoc
Liberty High School’s IN SHOC, Interact Students Helping Our Community, has made great success in its second year being a club. We have had more students join and participate at events and in meetings. During our monthly meetings, we always have some sort of service to do while we talk about upcoming volunteer opportunities.
In Shoc
For example, we have made tie blankets to donate to the Shelter House. At our meetings, we also plan different fundraisers. We are currently getting ready for our annual carnation sales during Valentine’s week. One important decision we still have to make is which international organization to donate our funds to.
In Shoc
IN SHOC students have been volunteering for various organizations and events such as the animal shelter, food pantry, and Special Olympics.
Booster Ball
Thank you to the parents and friends of Liberty that contribute to the positive experiences for students.
