College Counseling Newsletter
April 2024
From Mrs. Myrick
Senior Spartans,
I will be on maternity leave starting April 8. I am working with your high school counseling team (Ms. Belisle, Ms. Grebe, and Ms. Fletcher) and Mr. Alsup to make sure everything is covered while I am out! Please make sure you are reading any email that comes from these individuals as it could have important information pertaining to senior events or graduation!
Seniors: Now is the deep sigh of relief - 99.9% of college admission decisions are now out!! As you receive acceptances, please complete the college acceptance form below! April can still be a stressful month as you need to determine where you will be attending school before the May 1 deposit deadline. Please make sure you are paying attention to dates that your schools are giving you - some have extended the deposit deadline due to FAFSA! Also, please make sure you are reading your emails - there is a lot of important information given!!
Many of you have heard me say this multiple times, but remember to enjoy your last semester of high school - go to all the pep rallies, dances, and extra events, take all the pictures with friends, and do your best to remain present!! You only graduate high school once. Make it count!
Senior Parents: Soak it all in! The last few weeks of having a high school senior are here! I am happy to help support your families in whatever way I can!! We have many exciting senior events this year - I encourage you to attend all the events that you can!
Juniors: The After Graduation Packet (AG Packet) has been sent out to every junior - please make sure you complete that before senior year begins! I will not be able to write you a letter of recommendation for college applications in the fall if this has not been turned in. In addition, I am more than happy to help cultivate a college list for you - but, I need to understand what you are looking for in your college experience. The AG Packet helps me understand what you are looking for.
Junior Parents: I am putting the college process completely in your student's hands now! I have let your students know in each of my college meetings that I am happy to meet as much or as little as they prefer and be as involved in essays/resumes/applications as they want, but this process is officially theirs. I want to begin to make them more comfortable reaching out for support/help and advocating for themselves like they will in college. I am here to support in the best way I can for each student, but I know that looks different for every family. Please let me know if there is a specific way I can be of help to make this season as easy and non-stressful as possible :)
The college night presentation and notes are available below under "Resources for Juniors"! Please also make sure you are completing the parent portion of the After Grad Packet.
- Myrick
