Principal's Message
I realize that this year is not beginning as it traditionally does, but know that the staff and I are excited about the new learning and opportunities that will come from it!!! We are in the process of planning a virtual Meet and Greet and as well as other events. Stay tuned - I hope to share that information with you soon!!! I know that district is working on the date for class assignments to be posted. As soon as that becomes available, I will share it. There have been some questions related to the sample schedule that was shared in the A Day in the Life document (see below for link). Teachers will be sharing your child's specific schedule once school begins.
I know that there continue to be many questions, concerns, and worries about the new school year. Please know that we are all here to support you and don't hesitate to reach out at allison_landstrom@ipsd.org. I want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding while we continue to navigate school during this unprecedented time.
Best,
Alli Landstrom
Material/Resources Pick-Up
We will host a materials/resources pick-up for all of our students in Grades K-5 on Tuesday, September 1st. Students will pick-up supply kits, yearbooks as well as other resources that are needed for learning. I will provide more specific details next week.

How do I support learning at home?
Provide a space for your child to work. Create a quiet place to work with all materials within reach for learning. "Desks" can be created from a small table, a "science fair tri-fold" to create a carrel, a piece of wood on milk crates, or a countertop. Be creative!
Make your child's workspace feel like school - perhaps include a name tag, post the day's schedule, have all materials organized, or include a whiteboard for questions!
Help your child know where the camera is on the device, and be able to mute and unmute themselves.
Have your child in their workspace ready to go at 9am. Help your child be on time.
Reinforce the importance of them participating and learning. Encourage participation. (Teachers will support what that means depending on the group… raise your hand and wait to be called upon or wait for others to finish speaking before sharing your thinking.)
Allow your child to complete the work. We know parents want to be helpful and supportive. Often the best way to do it is to allow them to try and encourage them to persevere. Build independence by allowing your child to listen to the directions of the teacher and manage their materials to be ready to learn on their own much like they would if they were in the regular classroom without you.
Share your questions and concerns with the classroom teacher. We are here to help.
Child Supervision Programs
All programs offer parents partial week or full week childcare options beginning September 3. For information about these programs, contact the organizations directly or visit the links below:
Health Office Update
If you haven’t already done so, please make sure you complete your child’s health exam and immunization requirements. Documents can be uploaded through ParentVUE. All records need to be on file with your school by October 15, 2020 or students will be excluded from school.
Health Examination and Immunization Requirements:
• Students entering preschool, kindergarten, sixth, and ninth grades, and new students to the district, must present proof of the required state of Illinois physical examination and immunizations. The student history portion of the examination form must be completed and signed by the parent. If this is not completed, the student will be excluded from school on October 15, 2020. Out-of-state physical examinations written on approved forms, which meet current state of Illinois requirements, are acceptable if they are less than one year old.
• An out-of-state transfer student may, at the time of registration, provide an appointment card showing these requirements will be completed within thirty days. At the end of the thirty day period, if the completed forms have not been presented to health services, the student will be excluded from school.
• All students entering kindergarten, second, sixth, and ninth grade are required to present proof of an oral health examination completed by a licensed dentist. This will be due prior to May 15 of that academic year.
• A vision examination is required of all students entering kindergarten or enrolling in an Illinois public school for the first time. Written proof of having been examined by a physician licensed to practice medicine in all of its branches or a licensed optometrist will be required.
• Students, who were enrolled last school year in District 204, should not need a new physical exam unless he/she is entering kindergarten or grade six or nine. Returning students who need immunization(s) will receive individual letters notifying the parent of the immunization(s) needed. The DuPage (630-682-7400) and Will (815-727-8480) County Health Departments offer immunizations at their clinics for a nominal fee. Please contact them directly to schedule an appointment.
