What is King Ranch?
King Ranch is a famous piece of land bought by an anglo american man named King Richard. King Ranch was originally called the Santa Gertrudis and started with 15,500 acres of land but now currently has over 800,000! It started off with two men named Richard King and Mifflin Kenedy. They had owned a steamboat company together. They bought the land in 1853 during the Mexican-American War.
Why is King Ranch important?
Because of the massive size it is one of the largest ranches in the world. It was also one of the first places in Texas where you could go and slaughter your livestock. Over 25,000 cows are on the ranch currently and it has become a historical landmark.
