Vaccinations Now Available for Students 16 and Over: Quarantine Significance
The Department of Health Services and Governor Evers have now made the COVID-19 vaccinations available to all individuals age 16 and over. Currently, only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for ages 16 and 17. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are only approved for ages 18 and over.
Vaccines are available through Prevea, Bellin, Walgreens, CVS, Meijer, and Streu’s, to name a few. Minor children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to the first appointment.
We encourage you to share with your child’s school the dates your child received their vaccination shots, as this will make a difference as to whether or not your child will need to quarantine due to a close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. Two weeks after the final vaccination, individuals will not be required to quarantine for 14 days after a close contact unless they become symptomatic. You can provide your child's vaccination information to your child’s school nurse.
The Centers for Disease Control, Department of Health Services and the Department of Public Instruction have all updated school physical distancing guidelines to three feet. However, the definition for close contact, when determining if an individual will need to quarantine, remains the same, which is an individual being within six feet for 15 minutes cumulative in a 24 hour period.
