The Iceberg Illusion--Revisited
Dear Cougar Family,
This week's message is one that I shared in November of 2016, and I think it is one that we need to revisit. We could readily update the first paragraph to include numerous new accolades:
We are 5 weeks into our 5th year as a campus, and even more successes are amassing atop the CSHS "iceberg." From athletic victories to more National Merit recognition than ever before, our school is securing its stronghold as a premiere Texas high school.
These accolades certainly deserve celebration! Please remember that if you would like your club, organization, or team recognized on the daily announcements after the pledge, email the text of your announcement to Victoria and me.
I also want to take a moment to remind you all of the "Iceberg Illusion" that is illustrated below. Success is not possible without all of us buying into the same common vision: Pursuing Perfection...Achieving Excellence. Each decision we make throughout the day communicates to our students whether or not each individual on our campus buys into this vision, and every detail of our day helps keep the iceberg afloat.
Please remember that our common expectations are the key part of creating an environment at CSHS in which students can strive for success. Take a moment to make sure you are helping communicate these common expectations to our students:
1) IDs: Students must where them from when they enter the building to when they exit after school.
2) Tardies: Please do not let students in without a pass after the tardy bell.
3) Hall Passes: When a student leaves your classroom, he/she needs either a bathroom pass that clearly indicates the student is from your classroom and has permission to use the restroom nearest your room OR a YELLOW hall pass that is completely filled out. More hall passes are available in the attendance office.
4) Hall Duty: Students should be met by lots of smiling faces as they make their way to the next class.
5) Dress Code: Short shorts, leggings without a fingertip-length shirt, and hats/hoodies are the most consistent issues administrators are seeing. Please check students as they enter your classroom. Often, we do not see a student out of dress code until lunch, which means they've gone by at least 4 teachers before we see them.
These common logistical practices help teach our students good habits and show them that the adults on campus are both consistent and persistent.
Thank you for your help in making our campus so successful--both in the ways seen overtly by the public and by the way you conduct your classrooms each day!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!
