Software that has a source code and that can also be modified, or freely used by user.

The purchaser has to follow standards set by creator on what they can do with the creators work such as no copying, or piracy.

Shareware
Copyrighted work that is free, but if want a better/ full version you must pay a fee
Example: "lite" apps
Freeware
Copyrighted work that can be copied or given away for free
Example: Windows Media Player
Public Domain
A public piece , bought with public money ( NO one owns it), or the copyright has expired ( something old)
Example: Scott Joplin- "The Entertainer"
