Joyfully Embracing Our Mission
We, the St. Clare School Community, joyfully embrace the Gospel mission entrusted by Christ to His Church.
Believing that everyone is made in the image and likeness of God, we cherish and celebrate our diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Dear St. Clare School Families,
I thought it fitting to include an excerpt from a reflection on Mothers' Day written by Suzanne Jones Smith for the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur site. [You can find the complete text HERE.]
“I am who I am becoming”…I reflect upon this statement, shared at a retreat led by Marlene Denardo, and I think about who I was yesterday, a year ago, five years ago, and at age 20. I think it’s difficult, maybe impossible, to know your true self at any one point in life…but now I am mom and it’s harder than ever! As a mom is there even still a self? It’s not a very glamorous job and it doesn’t come with fringe benefits or employee appreciation lunches. These days my lunches consist of left-over hotdog bites and half-eaten yogurt. But I am a witness to the beautiful lives unfolding before me. And I am blessed. On the rare occasion when no one is screaming or fighting or crying, I can see God’s eyes in the eyes of my children…full of spark and life and light. Perhaps that is who I am supposed to be right now, a witness to the lives before me filled with energy, and love, and laughter.
The reality that Ms. Jones presents above is a very similar reality in the lives of our teachers. We are called to be light for others, but some days, we need others to be light for us.
We are grateful to you for your appreciation of our teachers this week, for your patience with our jam-packed schedule, for showing up to the Volunteer Appreciation Night, for saying yes to be a buddy family, but most of all, for sharing your amazing children. When days are long and challenges seem insurmountable, your children's smiles, hugs, waves and greetings make it all worthwhile. How lucky we are!
Today, we announced our 2019-2020 Student Council Officers. They are:
- Miette, Sy-Quiamsiam | President
- Niamh Regan | Vice-President
- Amabelle Nguyen | Secretary
- Noah Reyes | Treasurer
- Anson Chee | Historian
- Ashley Boudeville | Commissioner of Environmental Stewardship
- Samantha Rapport | Commissioner of Girls' Athletics
- Antoine Nguyen | Commissioner of Boys' Athletics
We congratulate those who ran for office. They are all leaders in our eyes!
The 2019-2020 Student Council will be installed and the 2018-2019 Student Council will be honored on Tuesday, May 21 at 9 A.M. Please join us in honoring school leadership.
Other student leadership opportunities exist for incoming 6th through 8th graders. We are launching a Student Ambassador program where students can petition to be part of this very important group who will support the school in a variety of ways. They will be working closely with me, the office staff, Sr. Ann Marie and Ms. McCormick for school events like Open House, VIP Day, Back to School Night, May Crowning and Blessing of the Animals. This group will pioneer the development of this student leadership program.
Students are asked to write a short paragraph explaining why they would like to be an St. Clare Student Ambassador and what they will contribute to the group. Paragraphs may be submitted to Mrs. Mantecon (drop it off in the School Office) by Tuesday, May 14 at noon.
Ambassadors will be announced by Thursday, May 16.
RUN, HIDE, DEFEND DRILL: A Successful Learning Experience
Feedback from the SCPD team indicated how well our students, especially the littlest ones did during the drill. Special kudos to the 5th grade for doing a wonderful job quickly responding to being out on P.E. during the drill. Our students knew their responsibilities well. Stay tuned for ways we will be improving our campus safety through some tools and additional training. We are so grateful for your support in communicating this to the students and assuring them that we have "their backs".
TALENT SHOW IS SURE TO ENTERTAIN
We hope to see you at the Talent Show tomorrow evening. Today's dress rehearsal was a delightful preview for tomorrow night's show. Proceeds will benefit a charity of Fr. Prosper's choosing. Additional donations are welcome.
SAYING GOODBYE TO FR. PROSPER
Our loss is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph's gain. We will miss Fr. Prosper very much. We will gather at morning assembly on Tuesday, May 21 to show him how much he is loved. We hope you can join us! He will get on the plane back home that evening and when he returns, he will start his role as parochial vicar at the Cathedral.
CONGRATULATIONS TO FIRST COMMUNICANTS!
Thank you to parents, Mrs. Vallarta and Mrs. Rascon for preparing well our students. Fr. Prosper and Fr. Tad were in awe of their knowledge during the interviews. We will be celebrating them as a school on Friday, May 23 at our school mass. Please join us!
WATER REFILLING STATIONS
Thank you to our donors and to Mr. Baldwin, Mr. Dalton and Mr. Dutra for their continued help in acquiring and installing them. A new one will be ready for operation in the elementary building by the Girl's restroom. If you or a group of you would like to donate towards a second unit to install in the elementary area, please contact Tola Dalton. The units are about $1,000 each.
To accompany our water refilling stations, we are asking if your companies or corporate partners have some metal water bottles. Bottles with appropriate logos are fine. We would like to offer them to students who may not own a refillable water bottle. Please let us know!

Uniform Exchange
Consider visiting the very full uniform racks located in the main school building. There are a lot of shorts, pants, shirts, sweatshirts and jackets for the taking! As we are in the midst of spring cleaning, also consider donating the uniforms you have that may not fit your child/children any longer.
Uniform Donation Guidelines:
- Only school uniform approved clothing must have school logo
- All uniform pieces must be clean/washed
- No rips, holes, stains, broken zippers, extreme fading
As we take pride in the St. Clare School uniform, please ensure your uniform donations reflect that pride. If they do not, please consider donating those uniform items to a local charity of your choice.
