Heather Thorpe-Bethesda Teacher of the Year 2015-2016!!
Congratulations to Ms. Heather Thorpe for being honored with the prestigious recognition for Bethesda Teacher of the Year. It was a joyous occasion for Ms. Thorpe's daughter, Kyla, our Bethesda staff and students as we paraded Ms. Thorpe through the school to celebrate her accomplishment! We are looking forward to seeing Ms. Thorpe do just as well in the county Teacher of The Year process. Good luck Ms. Thorpe! Thanks for making us proud!
Congratulations also to the TOTY finalists: Denise Haynes and Kim Peterson for a job well done! Thanks for making us proud!
Messages from Pam:
We realize progress reports are going out on Friday and the calendar says "Benchmark Database Due"
That is a soft deadline. The hard deadline is Tuesday at our Data Conversation Talks.
What do I need for data conversations?
- Benchmark Database Completed: All August sections that apply, SPG- Pre (If applies)
- Data Protocol
Remember our Focus
Analyzing the Standards (Stay true to the standard)
Building Capacity (Lifelong Learner)
Conquering the Workshop Model
Stay on Pacing (Super important)
(Master this first and then continue to build capacity to add on.)
BES Playground
Shhh…It’s a surprise! We are in the process of updating the playground by the cafeteria. In order for it to be updated, we will need to start over. The county has removed the play structure and metal bars (old ADA swing). These items do not comply with current playground codes. Based on our students’ feedback, we will be adding swings to replace the removed items. These swings are being purchased with the $7,000 raised for Box Tops. Yes, swings are expensive! We will continue to add a couple more items to that playground when we raise more money. Let’s keep this a surprise and don’t tell the kids! The new updates are happening now! Be on the lookout for our new swings J
We are listening!
Cognitive Abilities Test
Students in 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade take CogAT next week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Monday 9/21 and Tuesday 9/22 scheduled as make-up days if needed. The CogAT test identifies what a student is able to do and is also used to help students qualify for the gifted program. The students will be tested in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning. All student score reports should be distributed to Bethesda in late January and shared with parents through report cards and February Early Release days. Good Luck to everybody and show us what you know!
September 11
Let’s remember our fallen heroes from the 9/11 events that struck our world 14 years ago. They will never be forgotten! Thank you for participating in our patriotic dress day! You truly showed your support to our fallen heroes and families that were affected.
Reading is Fun with Finnegan!
