Year 6 Newsletter
Term 1 - 14th October, 2016
Hope you are enjoying your holiday!
Thank you for supporting the Year 6 team over the previous few weeks. A special thank you to all the parents who volunteered to come into school to talk about leadership. We would now love to hear from anyone with a scientific background. Please let your child's class teacher know if you can be of any help.
It was great to meet so many of you at the parent/teacher conferences.
We hope you have all had a happy and restful half term holiday!
Unit of Inquiry;
Central Idea: Understanding of Scientific knowledge is constantly evolving and has an impact on people's lives.
Lines of Inquiry:
Advances in scientific knowledge and understanding (causation)
Application of scientific knowledge in our lives (connection)
Protocols associated with scientific research. (responsibility)
We have started to break down the central idea and there have been interesting discussions in each classroom about the impact certain inventions have had on society. The children have been introduced to the 'The Scientific Method' and have been trying to use appropriate vocabulary when reviewing experiments.
They are all very excited about the practical element of carrying out experiments which will start after the half term break.
English: Explanation Writing
Students have looked at the purpose and language features of explanation texts. They will be learning to write up a science experiment and will be delving deeper into writing valid conclusions and procedures.
