PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE
January 11, 2019
The start of the 2nd semester always brings new students and families to PCMS. A lot of new families have joined us these past two weeks, and we’re thrilled they’ve chosen us to work with their child. We are so proud when we see our new students joined up with their Student Ambassadors who cheerfully acclimate them to their new school by walking their schedule with them, helping with their locker combinations, showing them how to get their lunch and making sure they have a new friend to sit with, etc. Joining a new school isn’t the easiest thing in the world for an 11, 12, or 13 year old to do, but knowing we have such thoughtful and caring students to guide and lead them through this transition makes us #PCMSproud!
Be safe out there this weekend!
No School in Session Mon, Jan 21 - MLK Day
Musical Auditions ~ Annie Jr
This year's musical production is Annie Jr! Auditions will be held either Mon, Jan 14 or Thurs, Jan 17 at PCMS from 3:00-5:00 pm.
Any student in grade 6-8 may choose and attend only ONE audition date (1/14 or 1/17) and should plan on staying for the entirety of the audition.
During the audition, students will learn a song, perform it with a small group, and read through at least one acting scene.
Callback auditions will be Fri, Jan 18 at PCMS.
Students will not know until the morning of the 18th if they are being called back. All students will not be called back, but this does not mean they will not be cast in the musical.
The final cast list will be posted on Tues, Jan 22.
Musical rehearsals will begin Mon, Jan 28 from 3-5pm.
Annie Jr performances will be Apr 12 & 13 at 7pm. (If student cannot be at both performances for any reason, they should not audition.)
If you have any questions about the audition process, please contact Emily Mahnken at mahnkene@platteco.k12.mo.us or 816-858-2036 x2622. We are looking forward to an awesome musical!
Middle School Swim Team
We are excited to announce that Platte County will again offer a swim team to Platte City Middle School and Barry Middle School 7th and 8th grade boys and girls!
Feb 25 - There will be a parent meeting at 6pm in the Large Group 2 Room at Paxton. Please try to be there, as this will count as the first practice for all swimmers who attend with their parents.
February 26th- First day at the pool!
Swimmers need a physical before they can practice! They will need a swimsuit (one piece), goggles, swim cap, and towel. Team gear will be ordered at the beginning of the season.
There will be practice Mon - Fri from 3:30-5:00pm at the Platte City YMCA. (A bus will take students to practice, but PCMS students will need picked up at the YMCA at 5pm.)
You may contact Coach Jenkins at jenkinsm@platteco.k12.mo.us with any questions.
Please see the flyer below for additional information.
8th Grade Parents: Please make plans to attend Curriculum Night next week!
As we reach the mid-point of the 2018-19 school year, PCHS is planning for the 2019-20 school year and is inviting parents and students to attend Curriculum Night. The purpose of Curriculum Night (formerly known as Parent Night) is to allow you to learn about each core class (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) from the department's perspective.
When: Monday, January 14, 6:30pm
Where: PCHS Wilson Auditorium
We encourage both the student (current 8th graders) and parent(s) to attend so that all can receive the information about courses which are offered at Platte County High School. This will greatly assist you and your student in the planning process and in course selection for the 2019-20 school year. If you would like more information, please contact your student's PCMS Counselor, Dixie Wirsig - wirsigd@platteco.k12.mo.us.
Note from the Nurse
If your student is now over the age of 11, they can receive their Meningococcal (MCV) vaccine and their Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine, both of which are required for his/her 8th-grade year per Missouri State Law.
We are trying to get as many done as possible before the end of the 2018-19 school year so that registration for the next school year will be a bit smoother for everyone. Your child may have already had this done, but we need to have the updated documentation in their school health record. Please check with your child's doctor to see if he/she needs to complete these vaccines. If they have already received these immunizations, please get proof of them being given to us as soon as possible. Keep in mind; if your student does not have this immunization by their registration day in August, they will not be able to get their schedule nor start on the first day of school.
Last minute immunization checks can make your wait at registration time much longer than necessary, as well as cause undue stress on you and your child. If you have any questions, please call Nurse Tammy Kobush at 816.858.2036 Ext 2613.
Updated immunization records may be brought to the Health Room at school, faxed to 816.858.3748 or emailed to kobusht@platteco.k12.mo.us.
