Testable Question: "How does the type of circuit affect the strand of Christmas lights with a burned out bulb?"
The independent variable is the parallel circuit. The dependent variable is light.
Hypothesis 1: If the Christmas lights are arranged in a parallel circuit then when 1 bulb bursts (is removed) the other bulbs will light up.
Observation: When all three light bulbs were there and connected all of them lit up. They were very bright.
Observation: The other two bulbs are still lit up and they are just as bright when one bulb is removed.
Hypothesis 2: If the Christmas lights are arranged in a series circuit, then when 1 bulb burst (is removed) the other bulbs will not light up.
Observation: When all three light bulbs were connected they all lit up, but they were very dim and gave off little light.
Observation: When one bulb was remove they other bulbs did not light up.
Conclusion: A parallel circuit is the best series to use for Christmas lights because if one light has to be removed or bursts then the others will still light up. The lights also light up brighter in a parallel circuit than a series circuits. Even if a bulb is removed they will still light up very bright. Parallel circuits light up brighter and work if one bulb bursts because they have more than one path for electrons to flow through. Another advantage of using parallel circuits is that they will eventually save you money.
