Feeling Sick
With the ever changing weather, we are sending more and more scholars home, due to ilness. As you can imagine, being a small school, illness has the ability to spread fast. That is why we ask that you follow the guidlines put forth by our handbook.
If your child is sent home with a fever, they cannot return to school until they are fever free without medication for 24 hours. Often times, that means your child will not be able to return the following day. Same goes if your child has vomitted. They cannot return until they have gone 24 hours without getting sick.
We have had scholars sent home with fevers, vomitting, pink eye, and hand foot and mouth disease. All of these are highly contagious, and the way children play together, they can spread quickly. Please do not send your children to school if they are experiencing any symptoms of highly contagious ailment, until they are 24 hours symptom free.
Boys and Girls Club Calendar
The last day for the Boys and Girls Club after school program will be Friday May 10th. From May 13- June 5, please make other arrangements for afterschool pickup.
State Testing
Testing Season
NWEA- January and May
ILEARN- Late April, Early May- 3rd and 4th grade only
These tests are not like a classroom tests. They are standardized tests and will cover the knowledge that the scholars have learned over the year.
What can scholars do to prepare for these tests? There is nothing really to study, but they can get a good night sleep, have a protein packed breakfast, show up to school, every day, and on time. Look for specific dates and times, as we get closer to the testing dates.

A Thought from Principal Mayer
It is that time of year again!!! Our 3rd and 4th grade scholars will take the required state tests, called ILEARN. This is a standardized test scholars in grades 3-8 take every year. Scholars have already completed the practice tests and starting this week, they will begin taking the test for real.
The data from this test will help us better to serve the scholars needs. It is this data that determines the grade level in which scholars have completed and guides instruction. It is because of this that we ask the scholars to work hard and do their very, very best. Because this is NOT a test that scholars can study for, there are some simple strategies that the scholars and families can do to help achieve success. They are as follows:
1. Good Night Sleep- Scholars will perform much better if they have a good night sleep. Getting to bed at a reasonable time(9PM or earlier) will allow the scholars plenty of time to get the rest they need. Often times, taking a warm bath, before bed, will help them sleep. This will help them build their stamina which will be needed for the longer tests.
2. Proper Nutrition- Please make sure your scholar gets a protien packed breakfast. While they will be provided a snack in between testing, starting them off with a protien packed breakfast will help keep them focused and keep up the stamina for the longer testing sessions.
3. Arrive on Time- Arriving to school on time is imperative to testing. If a testing session has already started, and a scholar shows up late, they will be moved to a quiet room and have to take the test in a make-up session. Getting scholars to school, on time, will also allow them to get their day started at a slow to normal pace. If they are rushed coming into school, then they will feel rushed while taking the test, and not perform to the best of their ability.
4. Keep scholars calm- This is especially important for our car riders. Give the scholars time to rest and prepare for the test during their morning commute. Listening to loud music or driving eratically will take away from their energy level, and could lead to a poor performance on the test.
5. Encourage your child- Encourage your child to work hard, stay focused, and do their very best. Some parts of the test are hard, other parts, not so much. Encourgage them to work through the hard parts and focus on the easy parts. These tests are untimed, so they get all the time they need to finish. Remind them to take their time and to focus, focus, focus. Scholars will often try to shut down when they do not know something, or get frustrated. Encourage them to overcome those feelings and to keep at it. The more time they stay focused on the task at hand, and not their feelings, the better the results will be.
We wish all of our 3rd and 4th grade scholars the best of luck on their ILEARN test. And we thank all of our K-2 scholars, ahead of testing, for dealing with the changes in schedules and routines while testing.
