EDUCATING LEARNERS TODAY...BUILDING GLOBAL LEADERS TOMORROW
Students Learn How African American History Shapes our Lives
Clear Stream Avenue celebrated Black History month in several ways. The Bright Star Players came to Clear Stream on Monday to present two plays. The first play was African Folk Tales and the other play was called Freedom Songs. The students clapped and sang along with songs that spanned the African-American diaspora over the last 400 years. On the last day of the month, Clear Stream had a virtual Black History Month Celebration. Click on the word CELEBRATING above to view the wonderful presentations that the students made in celebration of African-American history.
FREEDOM QUILTS
Journey to Freedom
We were lucky to partner with the Long Island Children's Museum again. The Long Island Children's Museum visited our fourth grade classrooms to teach them about freedom quilts. Freedom quilts were used during the underground railroad to help enslaved Africans escape to freedom. Students learned that the different symbols would point the enslaved Africans toward the North Star and eventually take them across the Ohio River to freedom. We were very grateful to the Long Island Children's Museum and thankful that our students are learning a vital part of American history.

NEW PLAYGROUND
New Pre-k - 2 Playground Opens
A big thank you to the Board of Education; Dr. France, our Superintendent of Schools; and Marcela Moran, our Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Business, for overseeing the building of our brand new playground. Our Pre-K to 2 playground is full of new equipment, a shaded area and grassy texture to help our students play while being safety conscious. We were also visited by our school mascot, Blaze, who took pride in the celebration.
ATHLETES HELPING ATHLETES
Athletes Helping Athletes is a program that was developed by our Central High School to assist our sixth graders with transitioning into middle school years. Former Clear Stream students and athletes from Central High School visited our two sixth grade classrooms to discuss socialization, classes, and fitting in. Our students asked a lot of questions and came away with the feeling of being more confident as they will be transitioning to middle school life in the next 4 months.
VALENTINES FOR VETS
A big shout out to Diana Clarke who undertakes Valentine's for Vets every single year. Valentine's for Veterans is a program that asks our students to write Valentine's Day cards to our Veterans who are stationed overseas. We are so happy that our Veterans are serving our country and are protecting our democracy while they are away from their families. Our students wrote Valentine's Day cards to tell them that they are loved and missed. Representatives came by to pick up the cards and they were sent to an overseas base. Again, a big shout out to Diana Clarke for all of her efforts.
100 YEARS OF HISTORY MUSEUM
A Century of Learning, Love and Family at Clear Stream
The Clear Stream 100 Museum and Decades Fashion Show was a big hit. Over two evenings, students walked the runway to model fashion over the last 10 decades. The students were dressed in flapper dresses, army uniforms and 50’s poodle skirts to show the different changes in fashion. Alumni teachers and staff were invited back one evening to socialize and remember what Clear Stream was like when they walked these hallowed halls. It was great to see old friends and talk about times that went by. People who couldn't make it sent their video messages and their memories of Clear Stream. Click on the link below to see a video of the museum. The Historical Society of Valley Stream will continue to house the 100th Anniversary Museum at the Pagan Fletcher House in Valley Stream until April 15th.
