River Rouge Factory Tour
All 6th graders at Avondale Middle School had the opportunity to visit the River Rouge Factory courtesy of the Career Development Department as part of the “Jobs in Action” field trip series. Students learned about the history of Ford, the advanced manufacturing techniques used to build the F150, the steps Ford has taken towards green manufacturing, and they got to see factory workers on the job putting F-150s together on the plant floor!
Our favorite student quotes from the week:
Female student: “GIRLS can do this job? That’s awesome!”
Male student: “I want to work here some day!”
That is what it’s all about! We are giving students the opportunity to see jobs in action and create a vision for their future! Students will have many more opportunities to see a variety of jobs in action and hear from guest speakers as they advance in Avondale.
Lawrence Technological University Tour
30 high school students had the opportunity to tour Lawrence Technological University and learn more about the programs they offer, scholarships available, and athletics programs. Students enjoyed seeing the variety of advanced labs they have there from science to engineering to computer science. Two of the students on the trip have already applied to LTU! With LTU's rolling admissions policy, students still have time to apply there.
