Science Fair Experiment!
By: Arshya and Abroz
Introduction
We mixed different amounts of salt (1 tsp, 3 tsp, 5 tsp) into water to see which amount of salt in water makes the most electricity.
Hypothesis
We thought that the more salt we add (5 tsp), the more electricity will be created.
Independent Variable
- Amount of salt(s)
Dependent Variable
- Water
Materials Used
- Water
- Solo cups
- Salt
- Teaspoon measure
- Zinc-coated nail
- Copper wire (same length as nail)
- 2 Insulated wires with alligator clips
- Voltmeter
Result
1 teaspoon of salt produced -2.38 volts of electricity. 3 teaspoons of salt produced -7.06 volts of electricity. 5 teaspoons of salt produced -8.03 volts of electricity. The cup which produced the most electricity was the one with 5 tablespoons of salt. This is because the more salt there is, the bigger the charge (more electricity).
