Challenge any individuals without a visitor’s badge and escort them to the office for obtaining one
Keep exterior doors locked and closed when not monitored
Don’t allow access to visitors other than through the security vestibule and office
Keep classroom doors “locked and propped” so that a simple swinging closed of the door will latch and lock it
Take lockdown drills seriously and make sure lights in classrooms are turned off, cell phones are turned off, and everyone stays quiet
Keep a close watch during outdoor activities and don’t allow strangers to interact with students
Light Bulb Visits
SPED
In all seriousness, it is a very hectic time of the year. Each case manager will send the initial request for information to each teacher with a stated deadline. Please be mindful of ARD deadlines. It is imperative that each report be completed on or before the due date. De Barnwell emailed all of the teams the tentative ARD schedule and we need your team to determine which Gen Ed teacher will attend the ARD.
Once the team has decided who will attend, please respond to Barnwell and accept the ARD invite. We will provide substitute coverage for the team member who will be attending the ARD.
The ARD form is slightly different than forms we've used in the past. If you are unsure how to respond to a specific question, please seek guidance from the case manager.
If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact Johnson or Barnwell.
AVID
AVID students are touring the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University on January 25th. They will spend the day learning about careers in the field of transportation.
UIL
Counselor's Corner
Thank you for collecting the registration documents. Please turn them into counseling office by the end of Friday, January 13th. Please keep them separated by Success class along with the class roster. We appreciate you helping us get this information!
6th grade teachers
The counselors from AMCMS will come visit with the 6th graders on January 20 during Social Studies class in the Lecture hall.
Behavior Tip of the Week: Being Inefficient, Wasting Time
Respond consistently to the inappropriate behavior. i.e. "Dan, this is an example of dawdling. You need to get out your paper now and get ready for the test." Your goal is to make them aware while remaining emotionally neutral.
Use reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior. i.e. increase the praise
Conduct lessons to teach the student how to perform task or complete transitions more efficiently. i.e. identify the areas of concern, model appropriate behavior and practice
Prompt the student to behave correctly by using precorrections. To avoid embarrassing a student, use proximity and private conversations to help keep them on task. Typically, we know when they will struggle and be proactive.
Use reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior. The more we notice and praise our students for doing the things we desire, the more likely they are to continue.
