The Weekly Word from CDS FP - April 22-April 26, 2019
Looking Back
Hello All,
Culture and Diversity Day! This was the event that we we were so excited about all week, and it lived up to everyone’s expectations - our FP parents are amazing!
Students arrived dressed in cultural clothing from around the world and looked fantastic. They separated into our FP House Teams (earth, wind, water, fire), and students were treated to a special episode of FP TV, viewed in the Dalton Hall. After we welcomed the students to Culture and Diversity Day, the eight groups set off to the their cultural centers: Korea, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, China, and Canada. Students embarked on a journey experiencing art, food, artifacts, history, language, beliefs and customs. The parents set up centers that showed wonderful creativity and everyone who took part was very impressed.
A sincere thank you to the FP PTA Council and all parents who donated their time and effort to make it such a rich learning experience. Your collaboration created an opportunity for students to experience the diversity that makes CDS FP so special.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring Grade 1F, Music. Thank you, Ms. Fursova and Mr. Fejes.
Grade 1 with Ms. Fursova
As we wrapped up term 4, grade 1 finished up their science project. We have been learning about animals and what they need to survive. We have had an opportunity to take a closer look at animal feet, teeth, and hair. Students applied these characteristics to design a solution to a human problem using one of these animal body parts. They then combined their knowledge about opinion writing and understanding about animal parts to write an opinion piece on how a certain animal part could help solve a problem, edited each others’ work, and designed a model to demonstrate this solution.
They worked super hard and had some creative solutions!
Music with Mr. Fejes
In music class, students have been finishing up their term 4 projects. Grade 2 students have been learning to play music in AB form, while grade 4 students finished their introduction to ukulele by discovering how to play songs by ear! Both grades concluded their units by performing the pieces they’d learned.
