Attendance Task Force Weekly Report
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. This information can be found below:

Orchestra Success
We also had a record number of students qualify for Texas State Solo and Ensemble. 10 solos and 2 ensembles qualified! These students performed the hardest level of solo and/or ensemble and also received a superior. All of the solos have to be memorized to qualify. These students will compete in Austin at the end of May. Congratulate them and wish them luck!
Solos: Aarathi Devakumar, Caroline Wilkins, David Wang, Emily Perry, Helena Heinrich-Barna, James Wilkins, Neola Edwin, Sofia Rodas, Sophia Dong, and William Simpkins.
Ensemble members: Caroline Wilkins, Effe Sutton, Sofia Rodas and Sophia Dong.
Congrats to all of these hard working orchestra students!!
Jazz Ensemble Success
The Lovejoy High School Jazz Ensemble competed this past Saturday at the Collin Jazz Festival at Collin College. This long running contest has been a staple in local Jazz competitions since the 90s. The band performed amazingly well and the judges were overflowing with compliments in the clinic afterwards. The band was picked as an Outstanding Ensemble and many individuals were recognized as well. We will perform this music again and additional tunes with our soloist in a few weeks at our end of year jazz concert. Tickets available below!

Girls Soccer
Unfortunately, the team came up short Thursday night in our Region Quarterfinal matchup vs. Forney 2-0.
Overall the varsity team finished the season 16-4-1 (10-2) with a second place finish in district. This was the first time the girls program has advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs since 2014, also advancing three rounds in 2013 and four rounds in 2012. Thank you to all the fans, staff, administration, parents, coaches, players, and especially the seniors for making this season so special!
