What Has Been Happening In Mrs. Glackman's Classroom?
There is always so much happening in English Language Development class. English Language Learners must work extra hard for English acquisition, so they work on various activities that target English learning through speaking, writing, reading, and listening.
Reading daily for 15 minutes is part of our learning routine. Students track their reading and share what they read after each reading session. Students focus on identifying primary and secondary characters as well as their characteristics. Setting, time, problem, and solution are essential elements students focus on while reading. Several students have read their first book this year, an outstanding achievement!
Another important activity that students work on daily is pulling three new English words from the texts they read aloud to me from Raz-Kids. The words are illustrated, labeled both in their native language and in English, colored, and memorized until the words become part of the student’s vocabulary. They all say that this is their favorite activity in English acquisition.
Lastly, students are researching an assigned planet in their science class with Mrs. Nagy. Students collect information on their assigned planet, create a PowerPoint or a poster of their planet, and build a rover that will explore their planet.
What Has Been Happening In Mr. Henry's Classroom?
Black History Month
February was Black History Month. At Scott we celebrated by learning about a different influential person each morning. On Fridays there was a trivia question to answer for a prize. Last week we learned about Maya Angelou, Thurgood Marshall, Ruby Bridges, and Booker T. Washington. Students and staff enjoyed learning about and appreciating these important historical figures.
Congratulations to our trivia prize winners from the month! Brayden Shelton, Zoe Everitt, Emily O'Neil (not pictured), Abel Osborn and Kyree Smith were able to choose a treat when their name was called for answering the trivia question correctly.
Ms. Pam Depte Spoke to Our Scott Students About Coatesville History
On Tuesday, February 27th, Ms. Depte who is a Coatesville native came to speak to us about Coatesville's history pre and post the Civil Rights Movement. She spoke to the students about the Underground Railroad stops that ran through Coatesville and touched on the history of the Steel Mill as well as many of the other historic buildings. The assembly ended with a question-and-answer session, and our students asked very thoughtful questions that showed how engaged they were with Ms. Depte's presentation.
Coatesville Athletic Leadership Council Joined PE Classes on Wednesday
On Wednesday, February 28th, the Athletic Leadership students returned to Scott and worked with our PE classes. They played Floor Hockey with each class and had a chance to learn about humility, cooperation, and kindness.

The following 10 students were given the choice of a Dunkin donut or a sweet treat at lunch.

Student of the Month for February... Zoey McLaughlin
We had another month with numerous students nominated, which is a wonderful problem to have! After much debate, our winner for February's Student of the Month is...Zoey McLaughlin!
Many teachers reached out to support Zoey's nomination. Here are some of the things they said: Zoey McLaughlin is consistently kind and responsible. She works hard and pays attention. Zoey always gives a consistent effort! Zoey does a great job when I've subbed in her classes. She is very helpful. Zoey has been great for me and I would be happy to vote for her!
Congratulations, Zoey, we are so proud of you. Keep up the great work!
February's Employee of the Month... Ms. Deon
We want to congratulate our Employee of the Month for, February, Ms. Deon. She joined our Scott team this year and has hit the ground running. She is extremely professional, punctual and very pleasant to work with. Although she is new to us and new to special education, one would think she was a seasoned pro. Not only does she complete her reports well, but she also gets them done well ahead of time. Ms. Deon is a quick learner and a team player. She builds positive relationships with her students and supports her fellow colleagues. She is one of a kind. We are very fortunate to have her.
We also want to congratulate our runners up: Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Fogg and Mr. Platt. All three staff members were given a gift card to treat themselves at Dunkin Donuts. We have an amazing team here at Scott!
Tuff Harris Assembly
On Friday, March 1st, our Scott students and staff were treated to an inspirational assembly by Tuff Harris. Mr. Dwayne Walton from the Parkesburg Point introduced Tuff to the students.
Mr. Harris spoke about his history and how he went from a reservation in Montana of less than 100 people to playing in the NFL.
He shared some defining principles that he lives by and gave us advice to stay positive, work hard, and not let our mistakes define us. We were all very happy to hear him speak, and left the assembly ready to "Be the best version of ourselves."
