Memorial News
December 2019
From Mr. Collier
Dear Parents and Guardians:
Hope this newsletter finds you all doing well and staying healthy as we head into the cold winter months. Since Thanksgiving was late this year, our students and staff have three full weeks before the winter recess.
Report cards for grades one through four will be published on RealTime beginning Friday, December 13th, after 4:00 p.m. Please make sure that you review your child’s performance and attendance at Memorial School.
December has a few activities and events that happen during the school day, but our teachers take advantage of every teachable moment. They teach not only the core academic subjects, but focus on helping our students grow to grasp social interactions and emotional stability. Our teachers continue to balance all these aspects to ensure that our students become good role models for others to follow.
At the end of this month, most of us make New Year's resolutions. Some want to improve their physical appearance or work on something that will better them in the long run. This year, the staff and I encourage all of you to make a resolution that will help someone else. When we show that we think and care about others, it makes a positive difference in the world. All it takes is a random act of kindness that shows our children and others that there are many people in this world who are positive and caring and want to inspire others to do the same.
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Memorial School, we would like to wish everyone an enjoyable holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year!
All my best to you and your family.

Too Much Screen Time Changes Children's Brains, Study Finds
By Anne Saker at Cincinnati Enquirer, November 4, 2019
This month, we are sharing an article to all parents about a study at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. They have found that too much screen time has an impact on parts of the brain that support language and self-regulation.

Kindergarten Registration 2020 - 2021
Please spread the word that Memorial School will begin Kindergarten registration in January. This is the time to register any student who is eligible for Kindergarten for the September 2020 school year. All registration forms will be placed on the Memorial School website before our winter break. The Kindergarten registration process will be open during the month of January and conclude on Friday, January 31, 2020.
Winter Concert
Everyone is invited to attend our annual Winter Chorus Concert on Thursday, December 5, 2019, starting at 7:30 p.m. Our chorus students have been working with Mrs. Feather since the beginning of the school year to prepare for this special evening.
The doors will be open for seating at 7:00 p.m. Please arrive as close to that time as possible for the best seats available. There will be no reserved seating prior to the doors opening. In order to ensure an enjoyable experience for all, please do not enter or exit the Multi-Purpose Room while the students are performing. I look forward to seeing everyone at the concert.
Dress for Outside
As the outdoor temperatures continue to become colder, we are reminding all parents to encourage your children to dress appropriately. Since all students will be lining up outside in the morning and participating in outdoor recess, it is highly recommended that all students wear pants, closed toe footwear, and jackets to school. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Family Night
Memorial School’s Family Night will be on Wednesday, December 11th. We will not assign any homework or assessments for the next day. Mrs. Fasano will disseminate the family activity the day before, and we hope that you will share with us some photos of your family participating in these activities.
