April is Stress Awareness Month
April is Stress Awareness Month—a timely reminder to prioritize mental health and well-being. In the midst of academic demands and daily responsibilities, it's crucial for both students and staff to take moments throughout the day to reset and practice mindfulness.
Remember to take some breaks. Step outside, take a few deep breaths, or engage in a quick mindfulness exercise. Your well-being is paramount, and these small breaks can make a significant difference in managing stress. Allow these moments to rejuvenate your mind, so you can have a focused and productive study session.
Remember, your mental health matters, and taking proactive steps to manage stress is a sign of strength. If you or someone you know needs support, Care Solace is available 24/7/365 for confidential mental health care coordination:
Call: 888-515-0595 (Multilingual support available)
Visit: www.caresolace.com/newberlin
Take the time you need, practice mindfulness, and thrive.
Solar Eclipse Safety
On Monday, April 8, a solar eclipse will be visible on a path across the United States. Approximately up to 90 percent of the sun will be covered by the moon Monday afternoon between approximately 12:50 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. While the weather may be overcast Monday we are still planning accordingly.
As always, student safety is our top concern and while we’ve educated our students about the importance of not looking directly at the sun, we will not hold any outdoor activities (i.e. recess, physical education classes, etc.) during the eclipse window, as we cannot guarantee they won’t.
That said, some classrooms may have solar eclipse glasses available for students to use and may be outdoors during the event. If you have any concerns or questions, or wish to have your child not participate in any solar eclipse related class activities, please communicate directly with your child's teacher.
Thank you,
RR Administration
DID YOU KNOW??
In the state of Wisconsin, students are allowed to miss up to 10 days of school for any reason and after that any additional days missed must be excused by a doctor or they will be marked truant.
Excused - absences are excused if a parent/guardian communicates with the school office through a phone call, email or the absence request process in Infinite Campus
Unexcused - only happens if the school office doesn't hear anything from a parent/guardian
Exempt - if you turn in a note following a doctor's appointment with your student's name and date/time of the appointment the absence will be medically excused and not count against the attendance record. There is never a requirement by us to take your child to the doctor/dentist/ortho/therapist, but if you do, we can exempt the absence. This simply means the absences don't count against attendance. If you have prior appointments, please email jennifer.macakanja@nbexcellence.org a screenshot or bring in a doctor's note and the absence(s) can be changed to exempt. Field trips, funerals and occasionally the weather are automatically counted as exempt.
Forward Testing
The Wisconsin Forward Exam testing window for our 3rd-6th grade students runs through April 26th.
Information was sent out earlier this year, but it can be found again HERE.
What can you do at home:
- Make note of the testing schedule sent to you by your classroom teachers
- Try to ensure they get a good night's sleep the evening prior
- Ensure a charged device
- Make sure your student has working headphones
- Make sure they eat a healthy breakfast that morning (most assessments will occur in the AM periods) and send a healthy snack.
- Try to avoid extra days off during this block--we understand some doctor appointments were made months ago! It's okay! We will work with your student to get the test made up.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss your specific student's needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher or Mrs. Patterson.
Our strolling orchestra
Congratulations to all orchestra students for their school tour performances before Spring Break! 5th and 6th graders in orchestra introduced themselves and their song, and they played a solo and/or an ensemble for another classroom. They did a great job performing and answering questions from the classroom audience!
Talent Show Photos!
Congratulations to all 6th grade Talent Show participants and crew members. You did a great job working together, and your talents shined on (and off) stage! Here's a photo album of all of our fantastic acts!
1st/2nd grade Fine Arts Night
Parents - check out this letter about "Bada Bing, It's Spring!"
In addition to the musical program that evening, student artwork will be on display in the hallways around the art room. Please stop by before or after the performance to view your child’s artwork.
Because performance and presentation are an important part of the fine arts curriculum, all students are expected to participate. If your child will not be able to participate, please contact Mrs. Schilling no later than Fri., March 22nd.
