Martin Luther
The Saint or The SInner?
SAINT
To the right, it shows Martin Luther pinning his 95 Thesis to the doors of a Church. By expressing his ideas to the Church, and the public, he gave the common people a voice against the Church. People who had hated the Church's rule in silence, because of the fear of the Church, now had a voice that described of all their woos against the Church.
The Different Religions
Above is a photo of all the different types of Christian religions. Before Martin Luther most of these religions did not exist. Now, this could be a good thing and a bad thing. Since we are on the Saint side, I will describe the good. Now that people had a copy of the Bible in there own hands, they could decide what they truly felt was right on their own. They could create a religion that truly related to them. This also gave people more options on what they truly wanted to believe in.
The Divisions of The Church
By expressing his ideas through 95 Thesis, he was able to make the Church realize there was many issues. Above this is a diagram of the divisions of the Church. Before, you would be able to buy your way through the Church, but after the 95 Thesis, the Church changed their ways and made it harder to buy your way up.
The Poor
In this photo, you see a group of poor women. The Church had a system that pleased the rich, by indulgences. If you were poor, you were basically going to hell. Some poor people would spend all the money they had trying to keep there faith pure. After the 95 Thesis, the Church changed some of the rules for indulgences and made them easier to get.
A German Bible
This photo shows the Bible that Martin Luther wrote in German, for the common people to understand. By doing this, he allowed the people to have there own understanding of the Bible, not the interpretation that the Church gave them. They could have their own ideas and own thoughts.
SINNER
Anti-Semitism in Martin Luther
In this photo, you see a sign saying, "No Jews Allowed". This photo is supposed to express Martin Luther's strong anti-semitism. He had even written a book called "The Jews and Their Lies".
"Killing Supporters"
This is a photo of an unknown Star Wars character saying "Kill Them All". Although this is a weird picture, it's trying to demonstrate that when German peasants created a revolt against the Church, Martin Luther turned against them and even told the faithful to slay them like dogs.
Giving Up on Some Beliefs
In this photo, there is a chalkboard with someone saying "I Quit!" in it. This is supposed to represent how when times were getting harder for Martin Luther, he began to give up some of his ideas. He gave up with his idea that the congregation should elect their own leaders and even faught in the other defense, that princes and leaders have already been chosen by God.
Different Religions
Before I said that creating all these religions was a good thing and gave people new ideas and religious freedom. There was also a negative impact. Because of all these new religions, there was many bloody, dangerous conflicts on which religion was right. This lead to many deaths and many wars.
Destruction of the Church
This photo shows many burning crosses. This photo is supposed to represent the destruction of the Church, in some ways, caused by the ideas of Martin Luther. Since his ideas related to many people, people now had the freedom to express their anger towards the Church in numbers. Although the Church was corrupted, attempting to destroy it with revolts was most likely not the best thing that could have happened in the situation. The Church still sometimes provided for the poor, helped the sick with medicine, and educated people. The destruction taken place of the Church was overall, negative.
