Burruss EOY Update
A Review of Events for the Last Week of School
End-of-Year Updates
Next week is the Last Week of School!
Teachers are continuing with instruction this week, and they are also starting to conduct individual reading assessments for most students. Please work with your child's teacher to attend this important virtual appointment when she reaches out to schedule it. Next week, teachers will focus on completing these assessments and conducting End-of-Year events. This is also a time for students to wrap up Schoology assignments and submit work. No new content lessons will be posted on the last week of school.
Homeroom teachers in grades K-4 are planning their own End-of-Year class recognitions and celebrations. Watch for news from your child's teacher!
We are so sad to miss out on the traditional 5th grade End-of-Year events, but we are still planning to celebrate this awesome class of students!
Wednesday, 5/20: 5th Grade Drive-thru Celebration 1-3pm (Come get your class t-shirt, a goodie bag, and wave to teachers!); PTA events (see PTA Note below)
Thursday, 5/21 at 6pm: Virtual 5th Grade End-of-Year Recognitions Ceremony (Via Zoom Webinar; link will be shared closer to date)
Friday, 5/22: The Teacher Parade is back on! Starting at 10am, the staff will parade through our entire attendance zone, honking horns and waving. We can't wait to see our Burruss Beavers...from a safe distance, of course!
Grades for Quarter 4 will be posted in Aspen the week after Memorial Day.
Please reach out to your child's teacher, myself, Mrs. Hartley-Lewis (assistant principal), or Darcey Ethridge (counselor) with any questions or concerns you have.
We miss you all so very much!

A Note from PTA
Our teachers have been amazing during these last 7 weeks. And we all have a much greater appreciation for them now, don't we??!
At the end of each school year, classes often give their teachers an end-of-year-gift. It is up to each classroom if you'd like to present a gift from the class or let each parent give an individual gift. You can coordinate with the parents of your class. Either way, the PTA has set up a date and time for you to deliver these gifts to Burruss.
PTA will have a box at Burruss for each individual class and teacher on Wednesday, May 20, from 10am-3pm. This ensures there will be no physical contact between any staff, parents, students etc, however we will have someone there to safeguard all the items. If you are unable to drop off the gifts during that time, you can also drop them off prior to May 20 to PTA President Emily Hobel at 1073 Grand Oaks Glen, Marietta, GA 30064.
Please note that a handwritten note from your child is as appreciated as any other gifts. The teachers have missed our kids, and we have missed them, and we just hope to show a little bit of our appreciation to all they've done for us!
Also, the staff will be receiving a free dinner from the PTA that same day, and they will be stopping by Burruss to get their dinner and these class gifts. We'd love to have the sidewalk and the street filled with chalk drawings from you or your kids! We want to show the teachers how much we love them! Or you can hang up a sign to show your thanks.
Kindergarten Registration is Open!
Please note: If you are in Pre-K at the Emily Lembeck Early Learning Center, you do NOT have to register again! Your registration automatically rolls into the school for which you are districted.
Technology Update
To date, Marietta City Schools have distributed 3,247 Chromebooks and 721 hotspots. If a student still has a need, please email techhelp@marietta-city.org, call 678-695-7215, or come to the MCS Central Office (250 Howard Street) each Wednesday between 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Planning Classes for Next Year
Rising kindergarten families are also encouraged to complete this form! If you have multiple children at Burruss, please complete a separate form for each child.
This process is completely optional; however, all forms are considered as class lists are built. No requests are guaranteed, but your input is incredibly valuable.
