A Message from Mrs. Tate
Dear St. Michael Families,
Happy Spring Break! As third quarter ends, I want to thank our students, parents, and teachers for a wonderful quarter of learning and fellowship. Third quarter can be such a challenge because it typically has all the snow days, the dark, shortened days of winter, and a choppy schedule. We persevered and made this quarter both positive and productive!
Congratulations to our Battle of the Books teams! Our 5th and 6th grade teams were victorious at Ascension. Our 4th grade had a great performance and took 2nd. Congratulations to all these students for their hard work and dedication to reading and literacy. Thank you for representing St. Michael the Archangel School with dignity!
If you and your family will be around here for spring break, come out and enjoy the SMA Fish Fry! There will be special entertainment for the kids for the next couple of weeks. March 10 will feature a walk-around magician who will stop by tables to entertain the kids. March 17 will feature a balloon artist. Join us for great food, fellowship, and family entertainment.
Last but certainly not least, please consider signing up for Parish Serve Day this month on Saturday, March 25. This is a great way, especially during Lent, to model Christ-like behavior in serving others and giving back to our community. There’s a link below in the newsletter, or you can click on this Sign-Up Genius to choose an activity for your family. There are many, many options for families with all ages of children. Check out the tabs at the top of the Sign-Up Genius to see all the volunteer opportunities, both on site at St. Michaels and in the community, to find the perfect fit for you and your children.
We are looking forward to an awesome fourth quarter! It promises to be filled with many memorable lessons, ceremonies, and activities to continue our journey with Jesus. “Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians (3:13-14)
Please join me at this link for commentary on chapter 4 of The Collapse of Parenting: How We Hurt Our Kids When We Treat Them Like Grown-Ups, by Leonard Sax, MD, PhD.
Have a restful, peace-filled, safe spring break!
Sincerely,
Diana Tate, Principal

Presidential Service Award Program
For the past several years, St. Michael the Archangel School has participated in the President’s Volunteer Service Award Program. The award recognizes US citizens who have achieved minimum hours of service over a 12-month period. For SMA, this period is from April 1, 2022-March 31, 2023.
It is an amazingly simple process - just keep track of service hours. Forms can be found on the SMA Website. Hours must be submitted to the front office by MONDAY, April 3, 2023.
For student service and community outreach ideas, check out SMA VSL - Student Volunteers.

· $65 for grades 3-4
Your registration fee includes a jersey. More info about track and field is available on the CYO website by clicking HERE.
WE NEED VOLUNTEER PARENT COACHES, NO MATTER YOUR LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE:
Last year we approached 120 kids from 3rd through 8th in participant count, which was great. What was missing though was enough help from parent-coaches at the practices. We desperately seek for VIRTUS trained parents to volunteer at the practices AND if possible, some at the meets as well. Being a former track star is not required. Email Ed Baldwin at ed@communitymortgagekc.com with questions or if you would like to volunteer to help coach.
