Writing - Assessment and Planning
Glenn Elementary School - Institute Day
Tips for Scoring
Pull out your lowest papers and spend some time scoring. Read all the others and score them quickly looking for patterns or teaching points for mini-lessons.
New Rubric Drafts
Take a look at your grade level rubric for the narrative mode taken from our companion document. How do you think this rubric will impact scoring? Will it make it easier or more challenging?
Scoring
Score a few of your samples with the new rubric. Determine what one area the writer needs the most support with. Think about teaching the writer NOT fixing the paper. Start forming groups for additional support in one of the following areas: Ideas, Organization, Word Choice, Voice, and Conventions.
Planning for the future
Take a look at the new resources provided. Plan lessons for writing strategy groups or plan lessons for your next unit of study.
