Rep. John Boehner
Elected by the whole of the House of Representatives.
The Speaker exercises duties as a Member of Congress, as presiding officer of the House of Representatives, and as leader of the majority political party in the House.
John Boehner is the leader of the House and combines several roles:
The institutional role of presiding officer and administrative head of the House,
The role of leader of the majority party in the House
The representative role of an elected member of the House.
The Speaker of the House is second in line to succeed the President, after the Vice President.
The Speaker may debate and vote on any matter before the House.
Majority Leader
Rep. Eric Cantor
Represents Republicans on the House floor.
The Majority leader job is to help plan the partys legislative program, steer important bills through the House, and make sure the chairpersons of the many committees finish worj on bills important to the party.
Majority Whip
Rep. Kevin McCarthy
Assists leadership in managing party's legislative program.
The Majority whip's job is to watch how majority-party members intend to vote on bills, to persuade them to vote as the party wishes, and to see that party members are present to vote.
Minority Leader
The party member who directs the activities of the minority party on the floor of a legislative body, as of the U.S. Congress.
The minority leader serves as a floor leader
Although many of the basic leadership responsibilities of the minority and majority leaders are similar, the minority leader speaks for minority party and its policies and works to protect the minority's rights.
