Notes from the Nurse
The St. Mary KidShape 2.0 program is a fun-filled, eight-week program that helps children 6 - 12 years old and their families live a healthier lifestyle.
At least one parent or guardian is required to attend each class with the child and family participation is encouraged. Families meet once a week with the other children and their parents or guardians in the KidShape2.0 program. Each class is filled with kids and adults who are concerned about their health just as you are. Click here to view flyer
Art
PE
The children are learning and practice working together in groups. Tawanka students made castles using hula hoops. They had to communicate and cooperate with each other to accomplish a common goal.
Music notes from Mr. Barber
Kids in Mr. Barber’s 3rd grade class are learning a song about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They will be making a recording in a couple of weeks. Look to Mr. Barber’s website for their final product. It’s called “Keep Your Eyes on the Prize”.
Library News
Younger students are learning the differences between fiction and nonfiction while the older grades are learning how to use their Chromebooks and Google Classroom.
Parents – Please help your child keep their library books safe. In the event of a lost or damaged book an invoice will be sent home. Your child will not be able to select another book until the fine is paid.
What's happening in Kindergarten
January has been a busy month! We are on our way with Superkids! Decoding and blending words like champs! This is such an amazing time in Kindergarten. The children really start to become independent readers. 1,2,3,4...99, 100! We are on our way getting ready for the 100th day next month!
What's happening in 1st Grade
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 1st grade made placemats to be used at local Shared Meals in the community. These meals are for needy people in the area. The children joined together in our pod to color placemats as their service project.
What's happening in 2nd Grade
It was another "Fun Friday" in second grade! Students and teachers came together to show their Eagles pride by making banners and posters in support of their favorite team....PHILADELPHIA EAGLES!!! This week each class will write a prediction for the Super Bowl as a writing assignment. Fly Eagles, Fly!
What's happening in 3rd Grade
What's happening in 4th Grade
In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Mrs. McNickle’s class viewed a clip and had conversation about his famous, “I Have a Dream” speech. It was very easy for each child to write about and illustrate his/her ‘dream’ for the world and themselves. Dr. King was an icon in our history!
EarlyAct Club
The EarlyAct Club would like to thank everyone who donated sneakers to our Dunk Your Kicks Campaign. We collected 173 pairs of sneakers! Not only did you help keep these items out of our landfills, you also helped many people who do not have access to the basic need of footwear, AND you helped fund a pediatric cancer fund. These sneakers will be sold at a minimal price to those in developing countries. All money received will be donated to military families who have a child dealing with cancer. Thank you so much Tawanka families! You are the BEST!
The EarlyAct Club will be selling red silicone bracelets for $1.00 February 12th-26th to support The Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, PA. www.philarmh.org
Empowered Eagles
Go Empowered Eagles!
The Philadelphia Eagles are headed for Super Bowl LII, but did you know that
Tawanka Elementary School Students are scoring big too?
As we approach the second half of the 2017-18 School Year, we thought it would be a great time to remind our parents, our students, and the Neshaminy Community that at Tawanka Elementary School, “Empowered Eagle Behavior” is something to cheer about!
Mrs. Klaiber, Mr. Gregory, Mrs. Duffy, our teachers, our staff and all the other adults here at school are on the look-out for students who are RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE throughout the school day. This could be at any time: in classrooms, in the cafeteria, in the bathrooms, during assemblies, on the playground, and in the hallways. When a school grown-up “catches” a child showing respectful, responsible, and safe Empowered Eagle Behavior, they just might give this student a sticker called a Tawanka Token. So many students are doing the right thing, it is difficult for our school adults to decide who receives a Tawanka Token since they each can only give out two Tawanka Token stickers a week. We do know that so far this year not everyone has received a Tawanka Token, but please we do notice all the good things the children do and that kind behavior is AWAYS appreciated.
Tawanka Tokens and Congratulatory Telephone Calls
Cool! It’s a call from Tawanka Elementary School… for a really remarkable reason! All students who receive a Tawanka Token for “Empowered Eagle” behavior, will be entered in into the Tawanka Celebrity Book. Tawanka Token cards are then are posted on the Principal’s 200 Board right outside our cafeteria.
Once 200 names fill up the Principal’s 200 Board, any child on the board has an opportunity to win a prize and a picture with the Principal! Names are pulled randomly out of a large bucket, so anyone on the board might win!
Pick-a-Chip Friday
Friday’s are Fun! Each Friday morning, any child whose name is currently on the Principal’s 200 Club Bulletin Board, has a special opportunity to win a prize. Names are chosen randomly for the bucket, so anyone on the board might win.
We Filled a Row
When a row on the Principal’s 200 Board is filled, there’s a special drawing just for students in that row. The winning student gets a prize!
We are proud of our Tawanka Team Spirit and the Empowered Eagles who make our school a respectful, responsible and safe place to learn, play, and spend the day. They remind us all to treat other people the way we want to be treatedJ Fly Empowered Eagles, Fly!
We look forward to catching you being respectful, responsible and safe!
