Update
Good afternoon Rother Family!
Yesterday Governor Newsom shared an updated plan for California and schools.
One part that stood out in Newsom's Message:
Newsom: “This is a very sober thing to say, and I can’t say this with certainty, but I can say this quite learnedly: Don’t anticipate schools are going to open up in a week. Please don’t anticipate in a few weeks. … I don’t want to mislead you. I would plan and assume that it’s unlikely that many of these schools — few, if any — will open before the summer break.”
After hearing those and other comments last night, I am still trying to process what that will look like and how to stay connected to our students and families.
The goal for us all moving forward is to meet the needs of our families for however long we are asked to be physically separated from them. Specifically, coming up with a plan to ensure our students have access to food and also educating our students through enrichment opportunities.
The plan for feeding our families has been established. Our food services staff will be serving food to our families each day at Rother from 11 am-1pm. Families will be coming to pick up each days lunch and the following days breakfast. The program started yesterday with about 40 meals served and today well over 200 meals!
Educationally teachers have created enrichment packets for our families; the district is putting together links and online resources, and handing out Chromebooks to our families. Many of you are already volunteering to stay connected with your families through BLOOMZ, Class Dojo, Google Classroom, Remind, texts, emails, postcards and other mediums.
As we all try to process moving forward with the idea of being separated from our kids for a significant amount of time, we begin wondering how to stay connected with our students and families. One example is Mrs. Bosetti, who created a video to share with her students. https://youtu.be/-tvP13Jv9ls .
Our office will be posting a message, video or tip to families on our Rother FB page each day. If any of you have any ideas on how to stay connected with our families please share them with all of us. I will do my best to implement suggestions for the office. If anyone needs support please reach out, so that we can overcome any barriers that would prevent us from connecting to our Rother students. Angie shared that the video she created took about five minutes total, to record, create a link and post. I look forward to hearing your suggestions and ideas. It is important that we continue to foster the relationships we have with our students and families.
Grateful,
Adam
