Calligraphy
Calligraphy is the art of writing. Different forms such as sizes and shapes suggest different meanings. Each character is made up of different set strokes.
Painting
Brush paintings began in the 600's. People worked on paper scrolls and silk. Most included very detailed designs. Most showed landscapes and historical events and sometimes daily life.
Flower arranging
Flower arranging was a tradition brought from Buddhists. They made simple arrangements that depicted the natural beauty of flowers. Bonsai trees are an example of Flower Arranging. Zen inspired gardens are also a form and they were designed to help people think quiet. These gardens are arranged with many rocks and pathways and few plants and trees. Flower arranging is a very important part of japanese culture even today
