Teacher Spotlight: Ms. Leone' 6th Grade Scholars
Ms. Leone's Class was celebrating Black History Month in their classroom. They read and analyzed the article "Olympic Legend, Jackie Joyner-Kersee" by Caitlyn Meagher. The scholars used the information from the text to complete the following activities:
1. In a Circle Map, the writers brainstormed what they learned by identifying important words and visuals.
2. In a Bubble Map, the writers described the renowned athlete with character traits
3. In a Flee Map, the writers chose their three strongest adjectives and substantiated their claims with text-based evidence
4. The students used their Flee Maps as an outline to write descriptive paragraphs about Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
Student Art Work Spotlight:
See some paintings that will be in the District's Harlem Renaissance Celebration this month for Black History Month. These paintings were inspired by the work of Aarong Douglas!
And a big thank you to Ms. Suplina, and Ms. DelGuercio for sharing the work!

Power of Peace at ALMS
ALMS has partnered with Youth Voices Center, Inc. and Michael Arterberry, to bring the Power of Peace initiative to our 7th and 8th-grade students. The program is designed to enable young people to become skilled at, experience, and apply the knowledge of resolving conflicts, understanding, teamwork and cooperation, and respect for others who are different so that their school communities are safer and more productive places for themselves and their peers.
This week we held two sessions with great feedback from the students and staff who participated. We will be partnering with Michael Arterberry to bring more opportunities to ALMS.
Important Upcoming District Wide Events
Please come out and enjoy the Black History Month Celebration
It will be hosted by New Rochelle High School - ALL ARE WELCOME
At the heartbeat of the school district’s vision and mission, is the charge to prepare our students to engage in a diverse world. This includes a commitment to provide a high-quality education that is authentic, inclusive, and collaborative. The school district is currently working to develop a graduate profile that describes and defines a set of college and career-ready outcomes which encompass academic, cultural, social, and employability skills and competencies. Through the rest of December until February 12,2023 the district will host a ThoughtExchange survey, conduct interviews and focus groups, to determine "When envisioning our graduating class, what are some key characteristics, areas of knowledge, skills, and/or dispositions that come to mind?"
It is the expectation that the graduate profile will be seen as a student success tool to be used from the first day of pre-K through graduation day by teachers, as well as site and central office administrators to speak with one voice regarding the preparation of our students.
The Graduate Profile is sponsored by the CSDNR Office of Curriculum and Instruction. This question will be asked of students, teachers, administrators, parents, community partners, post-secondary institutions, and the business community.
We would like to hear from you. The link to participate in our survey is below:

Chromebook Responsibilities
To ALMS Parents and Students,
As a Middle School student, you are required to come to school with your district-provided chromebook charged. The district-provided chromebook is also your responsibility; if it's in your backpack, locker, on a bus, or at home, you must keep it protected from being damaged or lost/stolen.
Please refer to the AUP and Device Loaner Form, which you have signed with your parent/guardian, and review the terms and conditions listed on the form both inside and outside of school. If you have not already signed the AUP and/or Loaner Form, please click on the link above.
To all parents/guardians, please speak with your child regarding Chromebook care and responsibilities. Some of the computers are damaged due to students spilling liquids, tossing them to the ground during recess, getting knocked around in a backpack, or dropping them. Damaged Chromebooks are subject to fees. You may want to consider purchasing a case as was indicated on the school supply list.
You can refer to our Acceptable Use Policy and Device Loaner Form (linked above) for the CSDNR policy.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
