2020 TR Kindness Challenge! This week....
Good afternoon Wildcat families,
The Trailridge Kindness Challenge 2020 starts Monday! Please see the attachment linked below for additional details and daily challenge descriptions. All students, families, and staff are all encouraged to participate. Let’s make our world a kinder place to be!
Service Project - In addition to the Kindness Challenge, Trailridge students are encouraged to participate in our service project by making dog toys for area animal shelters. Stay after school Jan 29 and 30th until 4:35 to help. Meet in room 19.
Second Semester Reset!
We celebrated with students:
- 81% of students grew on their Math MAPs. This beat yesterday significantly. In December 2018, TR saw 70% of students grow on Math MAP. #beatYesterday
- 68% of students grew on their ELA MAPs. Last year saw 60% grow...#beatYesterday!
- 81% of TR students have ZERO classroom referrals! Last year 70% did not.
- 91% have one or fewer referrals
Our staff, as always, are working to get better by the day and by the minute. That said, it is important to celebrate with our students and families. Well done!
Our focus this quarter is very straightforward. We need to continue successes:
- Smart technology...cell phones not seen and not heard. Earbuds out only in classes that are using them.
- No horseplay at school. We want to avoid frustrations on a given bad day that grow big fast with horseplay.
- Big emotions...use the lessons we learned this past quarter...know your "level" and use your resources to avoid big emotions leading to words or actions that will lead to suspension.
Our BIG focus this quarter is a challenge, for sure, for any middle schooler:
- Respect is exceptionally hard to define. That said, the easiest way to show and model respect to ensure a positive classroom climate is to, "follow requests the first time every time."
- We recognize that as a middle schooler, when asked to focus, be on task, have a seat......and more - our minds may not "want to" and our hearts may not "feel like it" - but in the moment please follow directions.
- These request may come from a teacher, a substitute, a cook, a custodian, a secretary, a principal or someone from district office.
Our students have grown immensely this year and over the last three years by so many measures: academically, behaviorally and the climate of our building continues to grow. We appreciate your support in sending us your very best and we look forward to growing even further between now and Spring Break!
Advisory Schedule is centered on Kindess Week!
TR Student Focus of the Week .... Tech!
- Earbuds should be in your binder/locker unless being used in a classroom. Please remember that the ability to locate lost / stolen items is challenging at best.
- Cell phones need to be in lockers. "All the things" available by phone are distracting to a middle school mind trying to focus on new skills. Please don't be surprised if phones are taken when being used during lessons.
- Macbook focus is key. Be on task throughout the day!
Please know that text messages from home can be distracting (because students routinely hide cell phones in back pockets or binders....we are happy to deliver messages from the office to classrooms throughout the day to eliminate classroom distractions!
