ELAR
4TH GRADE LEVEL GOALS
READING AND WRITING
During the month of March students will wrap up Unit 7: Delving into Debate and Drafting Opinion Essays. Students were given a variety of topics and had to choose a stance. Once a stance was chosen, they had to research that topic further to find evidence to support their reasoning. When students get back from spring break, they will participate in STAAR camps where they will review content taught throughout the year through the use of learning games, stations, and group activities.
MATH AND SCIENCE
Math
· Represent problems using an input-output table and numerical expressions to generate a number pattern that follows a given rule representing the relationship of the values in the resulting sequence and their position in the sequence.
· Identify relative sizes of measurement units within the customary and metric systems.
· Convert measurements within the same measurement system, customary or metric, from a smaller unit into a larger unit or a larger unit into a smaller unit when given other equivalent measures represented in a table.
· Solve problems that deal with measurements of length, intervals of time, liquid volumes, mass, and money using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division as appropriate.
Science
· The students are expected to examine properties of soils, including color and texture, capacity to retain water, and ability to support the growth of plants.
5TH GRADE LEVEL GOALS
SCIENCE
In March, for 5th grade Science, students will continue exploring ecosystems, food chains, and food webs. After spring break, we will begin our next unit covering adaptations, structures, functions, traits, and behaviors of organisms. Student expectations for the next unit are:
· Compare the structures and functions of different species that help them live and survive in a specific environment, such as hooves on prairie animals or webbed feet in aquatic animals.
· Differentiate between inherited traits of plants and animals, such as spines on a cactus or the shape of a beak, and learned behaviors, such as an animal learning tricks or a child riding a bicycle.
ELAR
- start the multiple genres unit
- prepare for STAAR.
In the multiple genres unit, students are expected to find similarities and differences between two stories.

Character Building Class
We are proud to teach our kiddos about the concepts behind “7 Mindsets.”
Classroom Teachers are providing these weekly lessons, and we are excited to engage with students in discussion regarding the same.
Mrs. Cobb is providing character-building (respect, responsibility, etc.,) classes through our Wacky Wednesday classes, and getting to know our kids via Lunch Bunch.
If we may be of assistance to you or your child in any way, please do not hesitate to reach out. We also have access to community resources to assist with mental health.
Thank you!
STUDENT COUNCIL
Pleasanton Elementary is proud of the accomplishments of its students. Students that are chosen to run for student council representative for the school year will need to meet the requirements of the homeroom teachers. Elected representatives will meet periodically with the Student Council sponsors to discuss upcoming projects and responsibilities.
Last year, the Pleasanton Elementary Student Council participated in the Trim the Tree fundraiser and made a donation to the Atascosa Animal Allies. They also collected non-perishable food items for a local food pantry.
We are excited to announce that our Student Council members are participating in morning announcements by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge.
