Leverty Letter
Montclair Hawks, you rock! I’m so proud of all of our Montclair students as they transitioned to our final instructional model this past week. I’ve enjoyed seeing our students who remain online connecting with and taking part in the hybrid classroom experience. Whether launching morning lessons or incorporating all students in a SEL lesson, or morning circle, it has been emotionally important to keep students connected. It has also been such a reward to have students back in the building, laughing and discussing their school work, and I can tell that parents/guardians have prepared them well for this big transition. I’m also thankful of the many parents/guardians that have been patient as we navigate the dismissal process. Having multiple cars and buses in the parking lot can be challenging, but your willingness to work with us to ensure kids are safe is appreciated. Finally, I want to thank both the students and staff for bringing their enthused spirit and determination in order to make this new instructional model work.
We’ve added some new staffing at Montclair this spring. Mr. Blake Lorentz is filling in for Mr. McKay, as many of you know. Ms. Joan Davidson is helping out at 4th grade as a Paraeducator, and we recently hired Ms. Ashleigh Escutia to be our Health Assistant. Ms. Escutia will assist students that come into the health room with symptoms of COVID-19. Please be mindful of the rapid testing information below regarding COVID-19.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:
- New or different than usual shortness of breath
- New or different than usual coughing
- Fever of 100.4 or higher
- New loss of taste or smell.
The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.
If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. You can find the consent form at this link: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/public-safety/emergency-preparedness/coronavirus/return-to-in-person-instruction/covid-19-health-safety-guidance under the COVID-19 Testing Information. For further information on the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid antigen test see the following link: FDA information on BinaxNOW test.
Enjoy the sun!

Need Volunteers to Help with Meal Prep at Elementary Schools
There is a need for parent/community volunteers to help with meal prep at all elementary schools. The volunteer shifts would be 1 – 2 hours in the morning to help with bagging up fruit, vegetables, or frozen entrees. Proposed hours are 8 – 10 am for early start schools or 9 – 11 am for regular start schools. Volunteers can be used every day of the week including Wednesdays. Elementary schools will coordinate for volunteers and front office staff can access a list of cleared volunteers through the district's volunteer management software Better Impact. Questions regarding Better Impact can be directed to Johanna Strout.

Appointments are available now and the program is well stocked!
The link to schedule an online Clothes for Kids Appointment is under the Families tab on the District's website. Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or on Wednesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Students do not need to be present.
To see open appointment slots, families need to click on either the Large Family (4 or more students) or a Small Family (1 - 3 students) options. After that, the next available appointment times for the date highlighted on the calendar will be on the right side of the screen. To book the appointment, they need to click on the time that works for them and then answer the questions listed under "Add Your Details". If times are not shown, either a family size has not been selected or no appointments are available for the date selected.
While online is best, families can also call 503-356-4322 to schedule an appointment. (Press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish.)
District staff are more than welcome to schedule appointments for families. When you book the appointment, if needed, you can leave your information under the contact questions and fill out the remainder of the form with the student's information. On the day of the appointment, families will be asked to complete another very short form with the student's information.
If needed and appropriate, you can shop for the family. You would just need to have an idea of what the student needs, their sizes and preferences. Please book a 30-minute with the student's information, or if you'd like to shop for several students and/or families, please book a 45 min timeslot. Volunteers will be there to help you!
No appointment needed to make a donation. For the program, donations are best when the program is open during the times listed above. Or, there are two donation bins on the walkway in front of the program that are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Nutrition Services Information
Dear BSD Families,
The start of In-Person Hybrid Instruction is right around the corner, and our Nutrition Services department has been hard at work developing a plan for how to continue to provide free meals for all children during both Hybrid and CDL. The USDA has provided waivers for the rest of the school year that allow any child (ages 1-18) to access free meals.
Starting April 5, meal service via bus routes will be discontinued.
If you attend Hybrid Elementary School:
● Hybrid students can receive a free daily meal bag to take home.
● Two days of meals will be sent home on Tuesday.
● No registration is required.
If you attend Hybrid Middle School:
● Hybrid students can eat lunch for free at school on the days that they attend in-person instruction.
● Free meal bags with breakfasts, lunches, and supper snacks will be available for students to take home at the end of their in-person school day to cover days they attend school from home and/or asynchronously.
● No registration is required.
If you attend Hybrid High School:
● Students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free at school on the days they attend in-person instruction.
● Free meal bags with breakfast, lunch, and supper snacks will be available for students to take home at the end of their in-person school day to cover days they attend school from home and/or asynchronously.
● No registration is required.
If you attend CDL or are a non-enrolled community child:
● All CDL students and children not enrolled in the Beaverton School District can access a free 5-Day Meal Bag every Wednesday from 11am-12pm.
● Meal bags include 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 5 supper snacks. Only children aged 4 and older are eligible for supper snacks.
● Families can select a school to pick up these meals in the Meal Bag Registration Form.
