Nazareth Protestant Community
September 15, 2016
Like everyone, I can tell you my own stories of times in my life where I just felt insufficient. Times when I couldn't do anything right. Times when I thought if only I lost a few pounds, or if I just looked more like that other girl, or if I got the best grades, or if I received a certain honor, or got into a relationship with the right guy...THEN I would feel good about myself.
But even when I dropped a few pounds, or got some new clothes, or saw all As on my report card it felt good, but it wasn't long before I started thinking about the next thing that might make me feel worthy.
Fast forward a few years and I'm married with children and a great job. It's everything I ever wanted. But there's still that lingering thought that comes around. It's a voice that whispers that no matter how many good things are in my life, I'm not deserving of it. I could be a better wife. A better mother. A better pastor. And there are times when I believe that voice.
It's hard not to believe those voices within us and around us telling us that we need to be, do, feel, think certain things in order to be worthy of relationship, happiness, security, you name it! This is only a small part of my story. And we all have one. Our own journey towards believing and trusting in our own worthiness as children of God.
On Sunday you are invited to join us for worship as we hear one another's stories about trusting in our worthiness.
If you are doubting that you are worthy of love--both God's and the love of others--you aren't alone. And know that regardless of what you might tell yourself, you are more than worthy. You are loved.
Blessings,
Nadia

Spring Break Service Retreat to El Paso, TX -- Border Immersion Experience
What is a Border Immersion Experience?
This year, the Center for Spirituality is excited to offer an opportunity to travel to El Paso Texas for a Border Immersion Experience. We will spend the week engaging in learning and dialogue on the issue of immigration. We will stay at the Columban Mission Center--an ecologically sustainable facility--and will meet with representatives from border patrol, migrant families, and other organizations that are serving those affected by this important issue.
The Columban Mission Center is a Catholic organization, but everyone is welcome. Each day we begin with prayer. There are daily meetings for reflection on the intersection of our spirituality and issues of justice. Full participation in the daily schedule is required.
A passport might also be needed depending on our ability to make excursions across the border into Mexico.
How to apply?
Contact Nadia Mullin in GAC 164 for an application. There will also be a short interview to get to know applicants.
There are limited spots on this trip. Once you have interviewed and been accepted a $50 deposit is due to secure your spot on the trip.
