April Family Messenger
2024
Dear Marthasville Students and Families,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. Hopefully bike riding and gardening weather is on its way! As of today, we have 34 days left with your Blue Jays. We have many more fun events planned, so good attendance is important in order to participate. I would also like to add a friendly reminder to wear tennis shoes to school. Our students get recess outside two times a day, and good footwear is a necessity when climbing and running.
The 2023-24 SDOW Parent and Family: School and District Climate Survey window is open from April 1 to April 12th. Your anonymous feedback on this 3-5 minute survey will assist in our growth as a District and provide feedback for the future of the District through our new strategic plan.
Please take a few minutes to provide your voice on this important aspect of our continuous learning as a school and District. If you were not provided an email, please check your SPAM folder for the “School District of Washington - Parent and Family Survey” email or contact Dr. Jennifer Kephart at Jennifer.kephart@sdowmo.org for additional access.
PTG is looking for new board members. Nomination forms have been sent home.
We are currently looking for a new President, Vice President and Treasurer! Help keep PTG going strong for the years to come! We have short monthly meetings, starting at 5:00 in the conference room and there are a few fundraisers each year. We are open to any new suggestions and ideas for fundraisers, increasing parent involvement, etc. Your voice and support is important and very much appreciated!
The Solar Eclipse event is next week! We are so excited to watch this unfold. If your child does not have a permission slip turned in, they will not be able to participate. The office has extra copies if needed. We will spend some time outside enjoying popsicles. Each student is allowed to also bring a small blanket or beach towel- we will NOT be sharing these. We will talk to the kids before going outside about the importance of keeping their safety glasses on the entire time. Students who do not participate will be inside with alternative activities. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Big Thank You to all our students and families for raising $1,000.75 for Relay for Life. We beat last year's total! Thank you for supporting a great cause. Our 3rd-6th graders get to attend the Relay for Life event on April 26th at WHS.
If you need anything, you can reach me at 636-231-2650, send a message to our Facebook page, come in for a visit, or email me at kristen.daffron@sdowmo.org. I am here for your family!
Kindly,
Mrs. Kristen Daffron

Color Run 2024- REGISTRATION COMING SOON!
Marthasville Elementary is hosting a family Color Run on Saturday, May 4, 2024. This event is open to the general public - you do not need to be a Marthasville Elementary family to participate! The Color Run will take place at the Marthasville City Park in Marthasville, MO. Check-in will start at 10:00 am and the run will begin at 10:30. Come enjoy a morning of fun! We will have music, a playground, Kona Ice, and concessions with hot dogs, chips, and bottled water available to purchase.
There are two options for race registration: the $10 Basic Package (race entry only) or $18 Shirt Package (race entry, white Color Run shirt, and a color pack). You must register by Tuesday, April 16 to guarantee a shirt. We will accept late registration but a race shirt and color pack are not guaranteed.
All children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parents and guardians are welcome to participate in the Run as well! Proceeds will benefit students at Marthasville Elementary. Online registration will close on Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Please contact the school office at (636)231-2650 if you would like paper registration, or have any questions about this event.
Note: For the safety of all participants, skateboards, scooters, and skates of any kind are prohibited in this event. Waiver of Liability: In consideration of my entry being accepted, I waive any and all claims for myself, my administrators, and my heirs against all officials, sponsors, and organizations connected with the Marthasville Color Run/Walk for injury or illness that may directly or indirectly result from my participation in this event. I attest that I have full knowledge of the risks involved in this event, and am physically fit and sufficiently trained to participate in this event.

Dress Code
The warmer weather has been welcome as spring is quickly approaching. With the warmer weather, we know people will be breaking out their warm weather clothes, and we want to take a moment to remind everyone of the district dress code to ensure everyone is dressed appropriately for school. This has been pulled directly from the SDOW Elementary Student Handbook which can be found on the district website.
Matters of personal appearance that are deemed distractions in the classroom will not be allowed. If a teacher feels that a student’s dress is provocative or inappropriate, the student may be referred to the office. The administration will then determine the appropriate action to be taken with the student. Parent contact may be made. Guidelines for Dress are as Follows: No undergarments showing. No short shorts or short skirts (mid-thigh is the shortest allowed). No midriff showing. No tube tops. No hats inside the building. No references to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, violence or profanity
In addition to this correspondence, I will be meeting with students to review the dress code so that everyone is aware and we can avoid any misunderstandings and awkward conversations about inappropriate school dress. As always, it is best when we are all on the same page. Thank you for helping make sure everyone is aware of the dress code and please call if you have any questions.

Music News
I am so pleased to invite you to our Second Annual SDOW Elementary Choral Showcase! Choirs from Augusta, Marthasville, and South Point will present a concert on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00 pm at First Washington United Methodist Church.
The concert is FREE and open to the public. I hope you might be able to attend to see the hard work of our amazing Elementary Choral programs! We are so fortunate in the SDOW to have choirs at the elementary level. Each choir will present their own concert and they will all combine for a finale song.
Feel free to share our flyer and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Cash for Classrooms by Casey's Rewards
We’re excited to share that our school is participating in Cash for Classrooms, part of Casey’s Rewards. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you buy from Casey’s and use their rewards program you can simply turn your points into a donation to our school. Find Marthasville Elementary in the rewards section of the Casey's app to start donating today!
Any donation that a school receives from the program can be used to purchase supplies for extra-curricular activities including sports, technology, art and/or school supplies within your school. Join us in giving back to your community! Funds will be disbursed to schools twice a year via check to the school's address and will be sent in December and April. No minimum amount required.
Technology
2-6 Blue Jays need to take their device home every night to charge. Students who consistenly forget to charge at home or forget their device altogether, will have to fill out a Think Sheet for being unprepared. If your child needs a new charger from the district, pleast let the office know. Chargers purchased from Amazon or other stores that are not meant for our district issued devices will cause harm to the battery life and ability to charge fully.
Visitors and Volunteers
If you plan to help at a class party or be a guest reader, you only need to have your ID scanned through Raptor.
Headphones and Earbuds
The can NOT be wireless (especially for MAP testing). We do not have enough loaners to give out during testing, so now is a good time to ensure your Blue Jay is ready to go!
