The great world of wind!!!!
WIND!!!!!!!
What is wind?
Wind is the movement of of air caused by differences in air pressure.
What causes wind?
Wind is caused by differences in air pressure. The greater the difference, the faster the wind moves.
What are local winds?
As it sounds local winds generally move over short distances but can blow in any direction. Local winds are caused by geographical features that make differences in temperature.
How does a sea breezes blow?
Sea breezes blow during the day when high pressure creates over the ocean and low pressure creates over the land because of uneven heating. When air moves from the ocean to the land creating a sea breeze.
Down below is a picture of a sea breeze for a visual.
How does a land breeze blow?
A land breeze happens during the night. Over the ocean low pressure occurs and high pressure occurs over the land because of even heating of the earth.
When the wind moves form the land to the ocean it creates a land breeze.
Global winds
Global winds are a combination of pressure belts and Coriolis effect. Global winds are created by large convection currents on a large scale or over a large area between the equator and the and the poles.
What are the horse latitudes?
Horse latitudes occur around the 30 degrees north and south of the equator where winds are very weak.
Most deserts are around the horse latitude because of the dry air.
Trade winds, jet streams and prevailing easterlies
Trade winds
Trade winds are winds that blow from 30 degrees almost to the equator.
Jet Stream
Jet streams are narrow belts of high speed winds that blow in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere.
Jet streams separate warm air from cold air.
Prevailing Westerlies
Prevailing westerlies belts are found between 30 degrees and 60 degrees latitude
