NexGen, iPads, and Learning in LVISD!
- Every student at LVHS will be issued an iPad and complimentary equipment (case, charger, etc).
- Teachers will send student assignments and class information to students through our learning management system, Canvas. Students will need their iPads to access this information. Also, teachers will be able to get real-time data on student knowledge by building assessments in the Canvas system.
- Parents will be offered the chance to purchase Optional Accidental Damage and Theft Coverage for $50 that will cover the cost for any repairs or replacement of the iPad due to accidents or theft.
- How will we get the iPads deployed? We will do it over the span of the first week of school and then individually, as needed. Only students who have attended Digital Citizenship training and completed all the necessary paperwork will receive their iPads. Digital Citizenship classes will be provided to students through English classes the first week of school. Parents and students will receive the paperwork at the Parent Workshops, Student Orientations, and during the first 2 days of school.
- Using iPads allows us to increase efficiency and is a tool teachers can use to create a classroom environment that encourages the 21st century skills that students need to be successful in life after high school, like problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and creative thinking.
- What if my student forgets their iPad? What if their iPad isn't charged? What if they use the iPad to do something inappropriate? What if, what if, what if? Those and many more great questions and lots of answers can be found in our FAQ document. Go check it out on our website, early next week!
- Per the Student Code of Conduct, students will only be allowed to use their cell phones before and after school and during lunch. Students will be able to use their iPads during passing periods and during class, as deemed appropriate by the teacher. If a student needs to contact their parent, they will be able to use the phone in the office. Limiting use to iPads allows us to be more effective at monitoring appropriate technology use at school.
