Solar Eclipse- We had a plan to let students watch together. However, the timing with dismissal activities will make it impossible. We will sell protective glasses at the school store in the morning for $2.00 in the event students want to look at the sun during dismissal or on the way home. Students without protective glasses should not look at the sun. Here are some safety tips for all students:*SAFETY FIRST!*
Do NOT look directly at the sun! - Students without protective glasses may not look at the sun. Schools that elect to take students out during the eclipse must make sure students do not look at the sun. See the activities below for ways to experience the eclipse safely and see NASA’s website for information on eclipse safety for more information on how to safely view a solar eclipse.
Last Day of the Marking Period April 9- Students, if there is anything you can do to improve your grades do it now and this week! The last day of the marking period will be Tuesday. Work hard and end strong. Look at your StudentView on Synergy. End the quarter strong White Oak!
Math MCAP and IXL- Please read this link to learn ways to practice and prepare for the Math MCAP- IXL Practice Opportunities
Promotion Ceremony- We received information that Blake's graduation was scheduled on our original promotion day. We understand this will impact many of our families. As a result, we will have our ceremony at Blake on June 11, 2024. We are appreciate Blake's willingness to accomodate our community. Thank you Blake staff and Ms. Snead.
Traffic on New Hampshire Avenue-
- In order to keep students safe, they are not allowed to take the metro to and from school in areas where buses are provided. New Hampshire Avenue is a very busy thruway. Cars are traveling at high speeds and we do not have crossing guards.
- Please pick up and drop off in front of the school. Do not encourage students to meet you or drop them off on New Hampshire Avenue.
- Driving out of the school after the student drop off area (near cafeteria) to go north we have a right turn only sign. Cars that wait to make left turns slow down traffic and cause safety risks. Please make right turns only driving out of the school to New Hampshire Avenue from the student drop off area.
3rd Quarter and Testing- As mentioned on our previous updates, state assessments and surveys will take place during this marking period. It is important that students keep up with assignments and complete them timely. It is also important that students make time to practice test taking strategies and pay close attention for test preparation opportunities in their classes as well as advisory. During advisory, students will be able to practice math questions that are modeled after MCAP questions. They will also practice those skills in their math classes and can practice at home using IXL. Please see the proposed testing calendar. We will update as needed.
WOMS Weekly Assignments- In an effort to help families keep track of weekly assignments and instructional goals, we will publish them on the following link- WOMS Weekly Assignments. In order to get more details about student classroom work, continue to visit the Canvas page for each class as well as grades and assignments on ParentVue.
IXL Math- This is a reminder that one of our main goas this year is to improve achievement in math courses. All students have accounts with IXL and can practice concepts at home. Please take advantage of this platform. Students in every math course can practice concepts and improve their achievement. In school, students log into IXL during advisory times on non-block days (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays).
