Spring Fever
Please remind your children about the importance of staying focused and remembering homework. We are starting to see the effects of the nicer weather with the increase of late work. Checking planners and having a conversation with your child is the best way to stay on top of things.
Also, please make sure to look in your child's Friday mail for their weekly behavior/work habits report. If you are not seeing them please ask your child for them. As a reminder, these need to be returned on Mondays with a parent's signature.
Thank you in advance for your help with this.
Literacy
Reading-
This week we spent time reading and understanding myths. The class loved this genre of stories. We will continue working on myths next week too.
Writing-
Students selected two animals and a conflict at random out of a bag. They then worked on coming up with a fable based around these three things. These are so great and they will be hanging outside of our room after they are illustrated.
Grammar-
We are writing friendly letters. Students are practicing setting up letters correctly by using the parts of a friendly letter.
Spelling-
NO words for next week due to Spring Break.
Math
Chapter 9 is all about multiplying in different ways. Students have learned partial products. This is a great way to see the value of each number as they multiply.
For example:
325 x 4=
4 x 300 = 1,200
4 x 20 = 80
4 x 5 = + 20
1,3 0 0
Next week we are going to learn lattice multiplication. Please see the picture below, taken from this chapter's family letter to help walk you through the steps.
