Micro-nutrients: Iron
By: Nathan Sims
Role in the Human Body
Iron, which is in the red blood cells, combines with proteins to create hemoglobin which attracts the oxygen in the lungs. Then it combines to form oxy-hemoglobin which is carried around the body in the red blood cells. The oxygen is released from the cells whenever the body needs it for the conversion of carbohydrates into energy.
Iron Deficiency is Dangerous! Why?
Iron deficiency causes tiredness, lethargy, dizziness, lightheaded feelings, lack of concentration(which leads to deficiency in academics), and shortness of breath.
