MTS Families and Students, Welcome to the New Year 2024!!
I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable winter break. The new year is now upon us and I hope that you are refreshed and ready to learn.
One of the major MTS goals in 2024 is to focus on student attendance. Regular school attendance is vital for children’s education and overall development.
Parents, please continue to send your child to MTS on a regular basis. We appreciate your continued support.
Important Information:
Tuesday, February 20, 2024- School will be in session. This is a make-up day for December 8, 2023.
MTS Snow Days/School Closure
If a snow day or a school closure is activated, students will remain at home and will not be required to participate in virtual learning. The school will be closed.
If snow days or school closures are activated, make-up days may be added at the end of the school year.
Communication regarding snow days or school closures will go out to the community. Please check the MTS website, phone messages, and Flash Alert at https://www.flashalert.net/

January’s 21st Century Community Night will be on the 18th. Our theme for the month is Math: It Just Adds Up!
The Mountain to Sound Program has expanded, and the adventures begin this month. This year, students in 1st Grade, 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, and 8th Grade will all have a Mountain to Sound experience.
All 9th - 12th Grade students will be participating in the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments for Math and Reading beginning mid-month. Be sure that your high school student is on time and present each day for this important assessment.

Elementary
Welcome back and Happy New Year! We are starting out the new year strong in Elementary by reviewing expectations and diving into learning.
Our Fifth graders are preparing to start going to Crystal Mountain for our Mountain to Sound project, and there are a variety of exciting activities happening in our classrooms! It’s going to be a great year!

Professional Development with staff – Friday January 5, 2024 – Covering a variety of areas including break out sessions for staff including:
“Joy of Mathematics”
“Writing Outside the ELA Classroom”
“Outdoor Learning”
“Indigenous Instructional Strategies.”
SBA Interim Assessments (9-12) - January 16-26, 2024 - Considerations for success: Consistent sleep in days leading up to the assessment. Well balanced breakfast. Positive communication about working to complete the test as well as possible. Understanding that some questions may be difficult and that it is ok to try one’s best on those questions.
Attendance
Incentive Movie Night happened December 11, 2023. Thanks to all 99 of you who were able to make it to Movie Night to Celebrate ongoing positive attendance. A special thanks to the Chalet Theatre for supporting these types of programs.

Counseling Center
Upcoming Presentations on Campus:
Puget Sound Skills Center - Serves juniors and seniors interested in specialized career and technical learning. Students earn high school credits in a hands-on environment.
Students spend half of their day at MTS and half their school day at PSSC.
Classes are 2 ½ hours daily.
Students attend one class program and can earn 1.5 credits for each semester of successful completion.

NYCP- Grant & Activities
Our NYCP team took 14 students, 9th-12th grade to visit the Boeing Factory in Everett. Students were able to tour the facility and learn about exciting careers at Boeing!
NYCP took 11 students to the NW College of Art and Design in Tacoma. Students were able to tour the campus and learn about careers in media arts, graphic design, motion design, interactive design, illustration, animation, and user experience.
NYCP supported the Student Council in a Christmas Candy Cane Exchange. Students were able to request candy canes to be delivered to other students, after writing a note of appreciation to staff.
