As a slave, Araminta Ross was scarred for life when she refused to help in the punishment of another young slave. A young slave had gone to the store without asking, and when he returned, the owner of the slave wanted to whip him. He asked Ross to help but she refused. When the young slave started to run away, the owner of him picked up a heavy iron weight and threw it at him. He missed the young slave and hit Ross in the head. The weight nearly crushed her skull and left a deep scar. She was unconscious for days, and suffered from seizures for the rest of her life.

Harriet also let several young children into her home and raised them like they were her own. she also provided shelter and support for a number of aged former slaves. To finance a living/ to support others she worked with sarah Hopkins. By the time she reached adult hood about half of the African-American people were set free.
The most important thing that ever happened to her was when she started the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad is a path were she would take slaves to freedom. The under ground rail road was not underground or a railroad. It was called the Under ground Rail road because when she escaped with the slaves it was a secret. The many passages were called lines, and stopping places were called stations. The Under ground Railroad went through 14 of the states upnorth. When they found out that Harriet Tubman started all of this they rewarded $40,000 to the person who caught her.
