What My Topic Is About
My topic is about the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. It was one of the bloodiest days in mob history when 7 men were gunned down in Chicago. Al "Scarface" Capone rose to power a rival gang was in shambles as a result of the killings.
When It Happened
The St. Valentine's Day Massacre occurred on February 14, 1929. By the late 1920's, Chicago was split between two rival gangs. Al Capone & George "Bugs" Moran vied for power, prestige, and money. Plus both tried to kill one another for years.
The People Who Were Involved
It was a culmination of a gang war between arch rivals Al Capone, and George "Bugs" Moran. Moran was a career criminal who ran the North side gang in Chicago during the bootlegging era of the 1920's.
Where Did The Event Take Place?
Gang warfare ruled the streets of Chicago during the late 1920's, as a chief gangster Al Capone sought to consolidate control by eliminating his rivals in the illegal trades of bootlegging, gambling & prostitution. Seven men were associated with Irish gangster George Moran. Which was Capone's long time enemy.
Where Did Al Capone Make History?
Al Capone is America's best known gangster and the single most greatest symbol of the collapse of law and order in the United States during the 1920's Prohibition Era.
Where Did George Moran Make History?
George Moran went off into prison, which wasn't a surprise to people. He was charged for robbery in 1918, and the judge sentenced him 1-14 years. George attempted to breakout, and was later paroled on Feb. 1, 1923. He became a full member of the North side gang, who welcomed him with open arms.
Why Was This Event So Important To Shaping The 1920's Culture & Society?
This event was so important to shaping 1920's culture and society, by people being more careful with weapons. Chicago is split up now with sides. One side is good, and the other is bad with dangerous gangs. There's still a lot of killings in Chicago, mostly with younger kids. They sometimes state that it was an accident. It also changed law enforcement, by them being more aggressive with the gangs.
